She came to Alton In 1848 and had lived here ever since. She was married to Joseph Elwell In 1849 and to this union nine children were born.

Only two survive, Frank Elweli anil Mrs. Lulu B. Schueler, both of Upper Alton. She leaves also seven grandchildren, George, Frank nnd Kills Elwell, of Mammoth Springs, Harry and Charles Elwell Gallatin, and Gladys and Mamie Sydney, of Alton. She ilso leaves to mourn'her fleath a foster son, Robert Elwell, of Upper Al- on.
