Oakland Peak Hour Rush on Carquinez Bridge Delayed by Mishap The peak hour rush of defense workers to Mare Island was delayed today, when a heavy trailer broke loose from its truck power unit on the Carquinez Bridge and turned over on its side against a guard rail. The heavy rail prevented the trailer from dropping into the strait, but the wreckage completely blocked one of the two traffic lanes across the span. Automobiles, filled principally workers way to Mare Island, were backed up for half mile on the Contra Costa side of the bridge as Highway Patrolman Clarence Miller routed them slowly around the trailer. Chris Sheridan, 45, of 648 Guerrero Street, San Francisco, driver of the truck, said that the bar connecting the truck and trailer snapped. The trailer, filled with merchanidse, zig-zagged back and forth across the bridge until it overturned and erashed into the rail.

The accident occurred near the south approach of the bridge. The truck and trailer belong to a San Francisco express company. Hayward. 20-30 Club To Be Council Host HAYWARD, Sept.
