Yours W. B. Hobtok Upon presentation ol this dooement to Mr.

Morgan he expressed a willingness to meet Mr. Hortoa at any time, but objected to the plaoe named Line oily ot Kogalee, as being too far and consuming too much time In the settlement ot the question at issue, but desired the matter aettled as soon as it was possible. Mr. Thos. GatM coming In at that moment.

Mr. Morgan referred me to him aa the friend who would act in arranging this matter lor him. In a Bhort time Mr. Gates called upon me and asked until 6 p. m.

lor a further discussion ol the subject. About the hour named, Mr. Gates informed me that Mr. Morgan declined to meet Mr, Horton at Line city, objecting to the place, but stating on Mr. Morgan's part that he entertained the desire that the interview should take place.

I at onoe waived the question of place and offered to allow Mr. Morgau to ohoose any place that.suited his own convenience, but on Mr. Horton 's part requested that details for an interview be at onoe arranged as we desired a settle ment of the question at once. That on our part I could see no possible settlement of the matter but by an interview between the partita at issue and on such terms as Mr. Gates and myself could shortly determine.

Mr. Gates again stated that Mr. Morgan had no ob jection to the interview but objected to the trip to Sonora, and was dejirous that de tails should be speedily arranged. Mr. GatM further stated that the delay was caused by Mr.

Morgan's friends, and re quested that the matter be postponed until 7 o'clock Monday morning when would receive a fltal answer. This morn ing I met Mr. Gates, of arranging for the interview at all.bandtd me for delivery to Mr Horton the following note Tccsob, Oct. 23. 1882.

W. B. Horton. Sir Yours o( 2'2d reoeived. If I construe it right it is in- tended as an invitation to a hostile meeting.

23, 1882. About 8 o'clock last night Mr. GatM notified Mr. Horton that he desired to communicate with him or some one in hi behalf. Mr.

Tccsose, Oct. 23, 1882, W. B. Horton, Sir I appreciate very highly the manly manner in which yon have treated the personal portion of the pamphlet published by me refering to you. I know that it was harsh, perhaps more so than I was warranted, and tb more I reflect npon it and consult my own feelings the more I am convinced that I was wrong in the personalities.

I there fore, in justice to myeel I ss well aa you, withdraw those portions and authorize you to so publicly ata'e. This may be by some misconstrued, but my sense of honor prompts it as a volun tary act. xours, etc Baa Mokgax. THE AGREEMENT. Tucson, October 23, 1882.

Buckley. tT-A positive mt Paaatama Mtlm. lor d)ieia OainluK Liberty Through a Back Door. Murphy, Moyer and Olbaon Bid Ooodbye to Tucson. Ths city waa startled last evening by tha report that nius ol tha moat notorious prisoners in the eounty jail had escaped It took but a lew minute tor the new to to spread through every thoroughfare, and soon tha Conrt Hon waa surrounded by as sxclted crowd of anxioua questioners, The report wm true.

The story of lb delivery a told a 8tat representative, by the jailer, furnishes all the aalient detail. He staled that about half-peat six o'clock, John Murphy, who locked in a oell on the lower floor with 'Moyer and Olbaon, waa apparently taken quit alek, and when discovered by the jailer, waa endMVOrlng to vomit. He begged to be allowed to pau into tha water-oloMt, situated In tha corridor, and about tea feel from the Mil door. This was granted, and he probably remained there about 5 minutes when he called to the guard to be admitted baek to the oel which, la the meantime, had been locked, The jailer, who waa entirely alone, passed through th outer iron door, leaving it un locked, and turning the key ot th cell door opened it to admit Murphy. At this moment the prisoner grabbed his right arm with one band, with the other cover ed his mouth, saying, "I am sorry George, but I have to do it." oiasoa in a stabs was on the officer, and pulled him into the oell.

While one of th trio waa un locking the other three cells in the ball, thereby liberating six other prisoners, two were busily engaged In tying and gauging ths jailer. They toroed a towel in his mouth tying it back ot his neck while his arms were thrust through the iron bars and bound with a towel on the outside. One ol the party, presumably Moyer, secured his revolver, which was oarriedin a back pocket. The men then closed the oell door, locked it, but leaving the key in the lock. The parties then proceeded to the jailers ofBoe, seoured the key to an iron door in the rear ol the corral, and passing through the side door ol the jail building, quickly REACHED THE OCIN LOT HACK, which led to Church street.

Their move ments after that are unknown to the officials. The jailer stated that it could not have been over two minutes from the time be was first assailed to the time the fugitives had passed out. In a fe minutes after he was left alone he suc ceeded in disengaging his hands, and reaching through the bars easily unlocked the cell door, running through the main ball ot the building, he encountered janitor George Hand and hia assistant A. J. Greenongb, who were talking on the front steps.

To them he gave the alarm and they at once started down tc-m to inform the police. Sheriff Paul is confined in bed, suffering from a severe attack of malarial fever. Under Sheriff Ward organized a posse at once, and by eight o'clock, had men scouring the oountry, but the general be lief is that ths prisoners had anticipated an escape, and had friends outside with horses and arms. Hence there is little possibility of their being overtsken. tbi ruornvis.
