As of Saturday afternoon, neither Boris Spassky nor Fischer had approved the playing conditions in Exhibition Hall. Spassky was expected to visit the hall sometime Saturday evening, after which he will give his opinion on the lighting, the chessboard and pieces and the general ambience. Fischer may go there early this morning.

The American grandmaster is described as in good spirits. A member of his delegation said Saturday that Fischer was relaxed, joking, confident and anxious to play. F' wr-r- -v. 3 Vn A week-long revival begins at 7:30 tonight at the Kl Con Baptist Church at 625 N. Kich-ey Boulevard.

Schmid Saturday flew to his home in Bamberg, Germany, upon receiving news that his 10-year-old son had been injured in a bicycle accident. The injury was reported not serious. The assistant referee, Gud-mundur Arnlaugsson of Ice-kind, will replace Schmid, who expects to be here for the second game Thursday. Originally Bobby Fischer had objected to the choice of Schmid as referee. It was Fischer's position that no active chess player who participated in international tournaments should referee important games.

The reason Fischer advanced was Russian domination over chess. He said that players who like to participate in Russian tournaments would favor the Russians when they acted as ref eree. Schmid responded by saying that he had played in Russia only once previously. Sale 8 2 Ulster BELFAST (AP) Barricades still straddled some streets of Belfast and other Northern Ireland towns Saturday, but the province's citizens basked in one of the first long spells of relaxation after three years of sectarian strife. The militant Protestant Ulster Defense Assn UDA pulled down two of the barricades it had erected at key points throughout the province. Barricades had been erected earlier at Castlereagh, a Roman Catholic district of Belfast, Lisburn, Rathcoole, Ballymena and Bangor. An army spokesman said the barriers at Lisburn aiid Bangor were taken down early Saturday and the Castlereagh barricade would be down by midnight instead of being lelt for the intended 48 hours. UDA militants put up new barricades in the tough Protestant sector near Belfast shipyards, but the army spokesman said the barriers seemed "only a token gesture" and probably would come down tonight.

The UDA barricades are a symbol of Protestant resentment at what they consider the British army's failure to flush out strongholds of the Irish Republican Army. its bomb and bullet campaign to expel the British from Northern Ireland and unite the province with the Irish republic in the south. As the province's Protestant Orange societies prepared for their great annual feast on July 12 another victim died in a Belfast hospital. He was Laurence McKenna, 22, who was shot in the head in a gun battle last Wednesday. His death brought the death toll in Northern Ireland's strife between Protestants and Roman Catholics since 1969 to 403. Two British army officers were on the carpet for being seized by guerrillas of the nationalist Provisionals.

The two, Captains R. J. Millard and J. C. Cornwell, were seized while walking in civilian dress through the Bogside stronghold of the IRA in Londonderry.

The two men were released after 18 hours. The officers now face a board of inquiry which will decide whether to take disciplinary action against them. In Motherwell, Scotland, hardline Protestant leader William Craig told a rally of 20,000 supporters that Northern Ireland's million Protestants would break their link with Britain unless the British family in 1952 spent about 23 per cent of their take-home pay on food. In 1971, food costs accounted for only 16 per cent," Campbell said. But recent surveys of the homemaker's grocery cart revealed that $2.80 out of every $10 spent at the supermarket goes for such nonfood items as pantyhose, disposable diapers, paper towels, plants and toothpaste, he said.

Although inflation, increased taxes, and increased costs of labor, transportation, and raw materials have raised food prices, about "$13 out of every $100 the homemaker spends on food items require special packaging costs separate from the cost of food," Campbell said. Pre-packaged foods require additional labor costs which the consumer views as food costs but "perhaps as much as 47 per cent of the cost of food marketing goes for labor and another 13 per cent goes to he said. Food is still the best buy the consumer can make, Campbell said. Area of the District of Columbia is about 69 square miles. The 35-year-old Democrat, who is now board chairman, told more than 250 people at a breakfast meeting at the Hilton Inn that he will seek a second term from District 2.

"The Pima County Hospital is 'crowded and we must do something to continue health services to those in need," Murphy said. A bond issue could be voted on in November to make money available for a new health center on the Southside, he added. Financial aid is needed at El Rio-Santa Cruz Neighborhood Health Clinic also. The adoption of a merit system for county employes "to take the matter of pay and promotions out of the hands of politics" is another of Murphy's goals. 99v Sale!
