The city council has ordered the old walls of the Lesinsky building, on Congreas street, to be taken down. This is right and indicates the city government is looking out for the best interest of individuals 88 well as publio weal. Tucson people who appreciate genuine merit will give Evangelist Orittenton their earnest support during his work in our oity.

He bas been and is doing a great work for good throughout the land and his efforts and hopes for Tuoson must not be in vain. United States Attorney Robert E. Morrison yesterday Aled a motion for a new trial in the case of the United States against the Copper Queen company, whioh was decided in the dietriot Wednesday favor of the defendants. Judge Davis named Jane 29 as the day for arguing the motion. Colonel Wilson, Esq, arrived from Los Angeles yesterday, where he has been located for the last three yeare in the practice of the law.

He saye he observes marked changes in the line of improvements in Tuoson since he left. Mr. Wilson lived in Tuoson several years and has many friends who will be pleased to greet bim. He will be here for several days. You will be called upon to parobase a tioket for the performances at the Tuoson opera house, to take place next Saturday, June 11, Tuesday, June 14, and Wednesday, June 15, the proceeds are to go to assist to celebrate the Fourth of July.

You cannot contribute for any better cause at present, and you will get value received as the performances will by far to anything of its kind exbibited in Tuoson. Mr. R. E. Stephens, proprietor of the Tucson steam laundry, left this morning for New York, and will be absent about two monthe.

While in the east he will inspect the laundries in the prinoipal oities and will bring baok with that is necessary to make the Tuoson laundry one of the fret-olass. While he is gone Mr. M. T. Butterfield will have obarge of the business of the laundry, and Mr.

The Fourth of July celebration committee beld a meeting Wedneeday night which was largely attended. The mili. tary organizations and fraternal ordera of the oity were represented, and a large number of citizens were aleo on band. All were enthusiastio and evinced great interest in the coming event. Varioue committees were appointed and the program outlined, which will consist of a grand military and civil parade, fireworke, floats and everything which goes to make np a fret olsen blowout.

The committee baa also offered prizes to the business houses and residences which shall ba best decorated with national colore, eto. One of the leading evente of the day will be a flag raising at Military park. This flag when raised will contain about 500 emblems of souvenirs. 'Ballot bootLa for the election of the Goddess of Liberty can be found at the leading business bousea in the oity. A large vote is expected, which will greatly add to the fund already in the treasury.

Mr. Hugo Donau was selected to aot as grand marshall of the day, and the honor of delivering the Fourth of July oration was conferred upon Mr. A. OrAla, who was the uranimous oboice of the general committee. Otber appointmente will be made later and reported.

HoFF, GEo. HOWARD. A Novel Reception. Yesterday afternoon the Misses Joeeie and Attie Hughes entertained 8 Dumber of their young lady friends with a Red. White and Blue Inncheon, which is something entirely new in this oity.

The handsome parlors were tastily decorated in the National colora, which made 8 very etriking ecene with the young ladies in their pretty dresses. The chiet feature of the afternoon WAS a Progressive Angling, in which four prizes were awarded the lucky fishers, who secured the prizes, were Mise Birdie Culver, Mies Ruth Brown, Miss Ruth Stransa, and Mies Katie Brown. A delightful lunch was served, a part of it being a large bicok of ice cream in layers of red, white and blue, which again showed the patriotism of the gathering. As the evening houre sp proached the guests declaring the occasion to be a most enjoyable one, and congratulating the Miscee Hughes on their royal reception. Enterprise.

Hon. W. O. Davis is making extensive building improvements. He is just completing the business house on Congress street whiob will be oocupied by Jacome Carrillo's dry goods busi0088.

As soon as this building is completed be will add two more fine build. inge, which will include his private residence, this three fine business to Congress street. Mr. Davis contemplates the erection at once of 8 bandsome residence which will no doubt eclipse any residence in the oity, as be has the cash to build just what he wants. His taste for the beautiful and artietio and the spirit of progress inspires him to add another bandsome resi dence to the city of which he has been an honored and prosperous business man for thirty yeare.

Mr. L. Rooa arrived ia the oity last week from Tueson, Arizona, and will succeed Mr. Filadeito Baca, as chief clerk of the American legation. Mr.

Baca tendered his resignation last J.n aary, to take effect July and will leave this city some time towards the middle of next month for bis old home, Las Vegas, N. where his father and brothers are engaged in the stook busi ness and are large land owners. Mr. Baca bas been here for the pact' five years, and during his stay bee made many friends who will learn of his departure with regret. His successor, Mr.

Picquet, the plumber who distinguished himself so greatly as a rescuer nt the Bazar de la Charite fire, was married recently in Paris to Mdle. Viey, a damsel in his own sphere of life, at the Notre Dame de Plaisance church. Picquet had only asked for a ninth-class marriage, but the clergy had prepared the church as if for a first-class one and the sinall building could hardly contain the numerous deputations from lifesaving and other societies.

Picquet recieved a number of marriage presents The electric street lights of Columbus, 0., have been examined by Prof. B. F. Thomas, of that city, for the director of public works. He reports that the average watts per light of the 906 investigated was a little over 400, and the average candle-power of 23 of these ares was 1,065.

The post office authorities in London have been for some months experimenting with steam, electric and other motor mail carts. A service of electrical delivery vans has now been inaugurated for carrying the mails between the general post office (St. Martens le Grand) and the West Central, Western and Pad dington district efices. A Copenhagen (Den.) chemist writes to the Engineering end Mining Journal describing a new invention for the production of ozone on a small scale. This works on the well known principle that phosphorus properly immersed in diluted sulphuric acid with the addition of a little permanganate of potash develops the gas in question.

The phosphorus is kept in the liquid in euch a way that its upper surface barely emerges out of the fluid. Gradually, as the phosphorus is consumed, it rises automatically in the owing to counterweights forcing it upward against the glass plate which is fixed at the proper distance from the liquid. 'The Michigan Telephone company has inaugurated a new plan of pay stations, or, rather, 8.11 extension of the old system, as many people who have been in the habit of using drug store telephones have found out. The scheme is this: A druggist, for instance, is offered free telephone service for himself if he will allow the company to place in his store a telephone with a nickel-inthe-slot attachment, so that all transient users of the telephone will be compelled to pay for the service. The drug store can be called up by any of its customers, and there will be no charge, but the druggist himself is limited to free service with wholesale houses, the hospitals, police and health boards, and all physicians.

WHAT THE LAW DECIDES. Jurisdiction of a suit by a deserted wife to subject the property of the husband within the territorial jurisdietion of the court to her rights is held, in Murray versus Murray (Cal.) 37 L. A. 626, to be acquired by publication of process and placing of the property in the hands of a receiver. A statute giving a deserted wife the right to prosecute or defend in her husband's name any action which he might have prosecuted or defended, with the same powers and rights that he would have had, is held in Allen versus Minnesota L.

and T. company (Minn.) 37 L. R. A. 679, to be valid, and there is said to be an irrefutable presumption, of law that he has cast upon her a delegated authority in such cases.

A railroad time table and printed rules for running trains on regular time, without any arrangement for emergencies in case of trains behind time, are held in Sprague versus New York New England Railroad company (Conn.) 37 L.
