Court waa opened at ten o'clock by Judge Sumner Howard, shortly attar whioh Governor Zuliok aocompained by Chief Justioe Shields, entered and took their seats on the bench. Judge Howard then introduced bis successor to the, members ot the bar, after whioh Gov Zuliok administered the oath ot offioe Chief Justioe Shields. Immediately after the swearing in ot he new fudge' Judge Sumner He ward in a brief but eloquent aud feeling ad-drees, reviewed his career during bis tenure ot offioe in the Territory, and ex-preated his gratitude both to the bar and to theoitizeus for the uniform consideration and courtesy he hud recived, aud stated his intention to settle in Pres-oott aud practice bis profession. Referring then to Judge Shields, he spoke of their both oomiug trom the same State (Michigan). And that many years friendship with him enabled him to testify both as to bis uprightness and bis ability.

Judge Shields thanked his predessor for his kindly remarks auJ in well chosen words expressed his earnest desire to live up to their tenor, At the couclusiou ot the Judge's speech. Judge Howard retired to the bar aud moved that our worthy recorder Wm. Wilkerson, be admitted as an honorary member of the bar in consideration of his long and faithful service as Clerk ot the Court. Chief Justice Shields made an order to that effect' and said that this first ex-oeroise ot his judicial functions here afforded him much pleasure. The court then adjourned until this morning at 10 o'jlock.
