The British comedian last week announced that she was quitting her Emmy-winning series, which was a critical favorite but never quite caught on with audiences, frequently finishing at the bottom of the weekly ratings pile. Its legacy, however, includes "The Simpsons," since Matt Groen-ing's wildly popular animated family got its start as brief cartoon snippets between "Tracey Ullman Show" sketches. Lifetime will begin reruns of the 81 episodes in September.

This weekend's "The Best of Tracey" collection includes seven sketches, all from the 1989-90 season, including guest appearances by director Mel Brooks as a filmmaker desperate for a hit, actress Glenn Close playing an aging actress battling for a juicy new role and actress Isabella Rossellini in a sketch about a proctologist, his wife and his lover. Bost bt "Mission: Impossible" (8 p.m., Channel 7) returns to the schedule with a repeat episode in which the IMF uses high technology and age-old superstitions to thwart an arms dealer supplying weapons to both sides of the Northern Ireland conflict.
