The Southern Pacific passenger service sale's force in Arizona "rang the bell' six times in 1918, and now it has the bell permanently. The handsome bell trophy was presented yesterday in Phoenix by Claude E. Peterson, S. P. vice-president in charge of passenger traffic, who came from San Francisco to make the award.

The bell was awarded each month during 1948 to the district making the largest sales gain or having smallest decrease. The Arizona district won the trophy six times out of 12 and gained permanent possession. In one of the victories last year the bell was brought to Tucson and placed on display in the S. P. traffic department.

L. H. Trimble, freight and passenger agent for Southern Arizona. accepted the bell for the district. In presenting the bell, Peterson said that the Arizona district was the only Southern Pacific district to show a gain over 1947.

The Arizona showing was made on a basis of local sales and does not include tickets sold to tourists coming to Arizona. "Generally good business conditions in the southwest and good salesmanship of the local Southern Pacific forces were responsible for the trophys coming to Arizona."
