Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Western Kentucky. PCAA CwtartKt Cwltrmct All Camel 7 4 5 1 Rtctivina PIS OP PU OP They entered last Saturday's Lehigh game holding second place on both the NCAA Division II and Lambert Cup charts. However, after a 27-17 loss to the Division I-AA Engineers, they fell to fifth. In the NCAA vote, which Delaware led for the fisrt two weeks, Winston-Salem continues to lead after its sixth consecutive victory. The Blue Hens are the only twice-beaten team on the list.

While the NCAA vote might have been a welcome sight considering two straight losses, the Lambert vote must have smarted. Boston University and Lehigh, No. 1, and 2, may be easy to swallow, but probably not Rhode Island and American International. The Blue Hens defeated Rhode Island in the opener 37-0 and AIC is a Division II team. But North Carolina A 4 not the polls, is the Hens' major concern.

The Blue Hens meet the Aggies Saturday in Delaware Stadium hoping to avoid their first three-game losing streak since 1973. The Hens came out of Saturday's contest with a series of sprains, bumps, and bruises, though Coach Tubby Raymond has not discounted any starters. The most seriously injured apparently was tight end Mike Mill, who sprained a knee. Gary Stern-dale, who started at fullback in a couple of games last year, is being considered as a replacement for Mill. Pacific Univ.

"We'll go to Notre Dame first," said Pitt Athletic Director Casi-mir Myslinski. TIRE AUTO SERVICE -io4i3r'P- PITTSBURGH (AP) National television, Notre Dame, a frustrating loss last season, and the last scheduled renewal of a long rivalry until 1986. Those are the incentives this week for the University of Pittsburgh football team, obviously cranked up even though the Irish are unranked and 2-2. "Everybody is gonna be about up here," said running back "Fast Freddie" Jacobs, holding his hand a foot over his head.

"There won't be any question about our players being ready," said Coach Jackie Sherrill, whose ninth-ranked Pitt team is 4-0 going into the game at Notre Dame. "At times we've played good. At times we've been flat," added Jacobs. "This week will be a lot different. We owe them something.

And TV adds something." It's the third year in a row the game's been televised nationally. Two years ago, Tony Dorsett led Pitt to a victory at Notre Dame and the Panthers went on to the national title. Last season, Notre NCAA Leaders DOUBLE FIBERGLASS-BELTED VVHITEWALLS UNIROYAL FASTRAK tin met mt C76-14 136.00 $1 97 E78-14 37.00 219 F78-14 39.00 234 G78-14 41.00 2.47 G78-15 42.00 2.55 H78-14 44.00 2.70 H78-15 4S.00 2,77 J78-15 40.00 296 L78-15 40.00 3.05 Dame won at Pitt and the Irish became national champs. Last season's 19-9 loss still doesn't sit well with the Panthers. "They've been looking for Notre Dame for a year," said Sherrill.

In that 1977 game, Pitt quarterback Matt Cavanaugh sustained a cracked left wrist as he was hit delivering a touchdown pass that gave the Panthers a 7-0 lead. Minus Cavanaugh, Pitt lost five fumbles and handed Notre Dame a 19-9 victory. The current Pitt team has victories over Tulane, Temple, North Carolina and Boston College. Notre Dame Coach Dan Devine says he's impressed. "We're playing a team that's one heck of a lot better than being ranked No.

9," Devine said in a phone interview yesterday. "They have one of the best coaches and one of the best programs in the United States." Devine's team lost 3-0 to Missouri and 28-14 to Michigan before beating Purdue and Michigan State. Now, the Irish are the first big ga me on the Pitt schedule. "When you play at Notre Dame, they have the homecourt. That's worth seven points," said Sherrill.

"The thing we have to do is be consistent. We can't lay the ball on the ground or give them field position." Notre Dame dropped Pitt from its schedules in the 1960s and early 1970s when the Panthers were faltering. Such schedules are prepared years in advance. "It was a tough, tough decision but the imbalance was just too much," recalled Notre Dame Athletic Director Edward "Moose" Krause. The schools got back together after Pitt's revival, but the nearest opening was 1986.

That likely won't change unless the NCAA opts for a 12-game regular season.
