Immediate removal. RUDNICK ASSOCIATES 1. The completed bid form, signed as required; By DOUG RICHARDSON Associated Press INDIANAPOLIS The rain that forced postponement of the Indianapolis 500 has complicated plans for handling a large crowd expected at Saturday's running of the race. Officials said continued wet weather forecast for today and Thursday could restrict parking near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, making it difficult for race fans to get to the Speedway or park inside the 2 -mile oval. "The infield is a sea of mud and if we don't get a break in the weather, we've got a big problem," said State Police Colonel Donald D.

Cox. "If fans can't get to a parking place, they just back up for miles," said Cox. Bill Burgan, police chief for the city of Speedway, said: "I don't think many of these parking lots can be resurrected by Saturday. "We may have to look at the restrictions on on-street parking and maybe, waive some of the restrictions." Traffic and parking problems could be complicated by curtailed mass transit service. Metro, the Indianapolis bus system, might have to run at reduced levels Saturday, said director of marketing Beverly Guidara.

"We're not sure yet. We'll have to figure out what we can put out," she said. "On Sundays and holidays, we have reduced levels. But on a Saturday, we run a regular schedule so I don't know how many buses we can get" to serve the track. She said the bus service followed a race day schedule Monday, when rain washed out the race for the second consecutive day.

"It certainly cost us," she said. "We had a full complement of buses, but we hauled only about 100 fans." Officials predicted the crowd Saturday will be down from the estimated 350,000 who showed up for the scheduled running of the race Sunday. "We think the crowd will be smaller, but it will still be pretty significant," said Cox, the state 2. A certified check or bank A 1 A ACC. BELLY DANCER fun! After starting slowly, he's hitting .257 and now he leads the team hi runs batted in." Wockenfuss put in 10 years with the Detroit Tigers before being acquired by the Phillies in 1984. "I loved it in Detroit," Wockenfuss told Archdeacon. "You won't find a better town in all of baseball. We lost 105 one year 19 in a row and we still drew over a million people and they cheered us every day." Today, Wockenfuss plays before a sea of empty seats, travels by bus to such places as St. Petersburg, Daytona Beach, Lakeland, Winter Haven and probably earns enough daily meal money on the road to afford a half-dozen McDonald's burgers.

That's a scintilla of the reported $275,000 he earned with the Phillies last season. But the man has confidence, hope, determination and a fierce desire. They are the ingredients that keep him going. "I finally got an agent," Wockenfuss told Archdeacon. "All my time in the big leagues I didn't have one.

I thought I could take care of my contract myself, but I never pushed, never bickered. I'm not crying over spilled milk, but it probably hurt me. "I got the agent now, not for the money but just to help me get back up there. We wrote every team a letter before the season, called most of them, too. Then I went and visited most of the teams in spring training.

We sent them all a letter a week ago. I just wanted them to remember me when they need someone." At the time of my departure for Delaware, Wockenfuss was the Marlins' eighth leading hitter at .267. In 101 at-bats, he had 27 hits, one home run and 23 RBI for the last-place Marlins (11-17). Matt Zabitka is a sports columnist lor the News-Journal papers. FOUR TIMES, during my recent Florida sojourn, I made weak attempts at taking in a Miami Marlins baseball game.

Each time the lure of the doggies at Flagler Greyhound Track won out. Miami is where former major-leaguer John Wockenfuss is now picking up his baseball paycheck. He's a catcher and designated hitter for the independent Marlins of the Class A Florida State League. The Flagler dog track is as near to Miami's spacious stadium as downtown Wilmington is to Clay-mont. Maybe closer.

To get to the dog track, I traveled past Miami Stadium each time. While the Marlins play before thousands of empty seats in their well-lighted park, a facility used by the Baltimore Orioles for spring training, the nearby dog track bustles nightly with live-wire action. Cheers emanating from the dog track drown out the roaring sounds of the monstrous jets that take off continuously from nearby Miami International Airport. A piece down the road, there's this beautiful Miami Stadium, the field bathed in lights for night games that attract more mosquitoes than fans. For many Marlins' home games, you could probably take the entire attendance and squeeze it into John Hickman's basement.

The couple of times I got the urge to forgo the track and catch Wockenfuss in action, the Marlins were on the road. I kept abreast of the Marlins through the sports pages of the Miami Herald and Miami News. Neither daily reports game stories, just box scores and schedules. For the few games the Marlins played at home during my stay in Florida, "official" attendance figures were given as 150 one night, 250 another night, 300 another. Top crowd for a home game was listed at 350.

It's in this morgue-like setting that former Dickinson High athlete Wockenfuss, a veteran of 12 major-league seasons, the last two with the Phillies, is trying to work his way back into the bigs. The 37-year-old may well be the oldest player in minor-league baseball. Definitely the elder statesman in the 12-team Florida State League, Wockenfuss was the subject of the only Miami Marlins baseball story that appeared in either the Herald or News during my visit. He was splashed atop the front page of the May 10 Miami News sports section, a story accompanied by a two-column mug shot and a full-length photo in uniform. "There are managers 32 to 35, but I don't think there are any minor-league players who are 37," Wockenfuss told Miami News sports CLASSIFIED DIRECTORY This is your guide to the major classified categories, each of which is divided into individual classifications.
