Doors open at 10 a with bingo from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Lunch will be served. Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfast The Knights of Columbus will be hosting a Pancake Breakfast from a.m. on Saturday March 12 at Saint Peter the Fisherman Parish Life Center. The Knights will be offering pancakes, bis- uits and gravy, country ink sausage, coffee, tea, juice and water. Admis- ion is $6.50 for Adults and $3 for children under 12 years of age. Proceeds will go to und Baxter Regional edical Center, Alpha House, The Christian Clinic, and Saint Catholic Youth Ministry.

Junior Auxiliary 20th Annual Egg Hunt The Junior 20th annual Easter Egg Hunt is set for 11a.m. on Saturday, March 19, at Cooper Park. The hunt is for children ages 1to 9 years old and will begin at 11a.m. sharp, so do not be late. Immediately after the hunt, Mountain Home Parks and Recreation will have its annual pring carnival at the Sammons Youth Center.

Friends of the Library i Search of Treasure The Friends of the axter County Library are accepting donations now for their annual Our Treasures They are cur- ently accepting dona- ions of glassware, crys- al, paintings, craft items, jewelry, collectables, and more. Please bring your tax deductible donation items to the Information Desk at the Library now. The auction will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at the Donald W. Reynolds Library.

Junior Auxiliary spring arnival, egg hunt planned BULLETIN ST AFF Awork of art commissioned by a local bank, painted by a local artist and celebrating a noted figure in local history has found a ew home in which to be isplayed for public enjoy- ent. uesday, First Security Bank donated an oil painting of Nellie Mitchell, newspaper to the Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society, according to Tim Coleman, president of First Security.

Nellie Mitchell was a well-known and well-loved local resident who operated her own newspaper business on the Mountain Home Square from 1943 ntil 1993, and who continued to deliver to special customers until she was 96 years old. Before she passed away at age 103, Nellie Mitchell had been featured on Today Show, Good Morning America, a nd had been victorious in suing an international tabloid for libel, with the assistance of local attorney, Roy Danuser. First Security Bank displayed the full-length port rait of Nellie Mitchell, a long with other art, in heir main bank building Main Street until a renovation of their facility a few years ago. The bank had commissioned local painter Bonnie Heenan to do the painting in 1990. Heenan visited Nellie at her home to take pictures to use in making the painting.

She recalls Nellie commenting, would anybody want to paint a picture of Besides the fact that Nellie was a nique local figure by then, it is also a fact that her father, James T. Tracy, was one of the founders of The Peoples Bank, which was later reorganized as the present First Security Bank. The Baxter County His- orical Society will display the painting in the Lobby of their Heritage Center at 808 S. Baker Street, just across the street from First Security. is not only a sign ificant painting, but a eautiful one that recalls a onderful local said ennifer Baker, president of the Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society.

Mitchell was an important personality known to many of the people of Baxter County. grateful to Tim Coleman and First Security for sharing this great piece of history with us and the public once The Society also has detailed accounts of the life Nellie Mitchell in its archives.
