DONINIE PUTS UP A STRONG ARGUMENT I Sued for a grocery bill and a horse and buggy, having his gonds levied by a sheriff, threatened by a aberiff sale, knocked by aome peryons of his congregation and asked many times to resign. are a few of the recent events in the life of Rev. S. V.

Kergen, pastor of the Pleasant View church at Smock, just back of Fayette City. Had it not been for the friendly members of hie church his goods would have probably been sold. Those members raised the necessary money by popular subscription and the judgment note of about $350 which he had. given was paid off this morning. The judgment was entered by Nat Garwood, an elder in the church, and the proprietor of a store at which the, minister dealt.

The minister gave his note for the bill with the standing that he would be given certain time to pay it. That time, was not given and the judgment was entered by Mr. Garwood. 'The pastor has only served six! months of the two years term for which he way installed and he absolutely refuses to resign, as there seems to be more spite work than business or religion in the deal and he is encouraged by a goodly portion of his membership to stand pat and fight it out if it takes all summer. It seems the first friction arose when Rev.

Bergen chose to install a Big Redstone phone in his home contrary to the wishes of the church se and from that time on drt was thrown in his eyes at every turr. Rev. Bergen is 8 young clergy. man, well liked by the majority of the members of his congregation and others, there is always 8 large ittendance at his services. He was in the limelight some time ago when as pastor of the Presbyterian church at Roscoe, he sent out personal letters informing the church membera of their faults.

The outcome is anxiously awaited and the elders, it is said, are still p'anning to oust the minister, who so far has refused to be ousted.
