The original figures were ob tained from official Washington Bureau of Census records and the community compilation was made by the research depart ment of the Chamber. Trends Apparent "Some trends seem rather ap parent from the compilation, said Raker. "A heavy growth in population has taken place in the suburban areas, wun tne San Fernando Valley showing the greatest population increases. The older city areas indicate a decrease." Since 1950, according to the breakdown, 145,000 new residents have moved Into the city portion of the San Fernando Valley. This increase is tantamount to the total population of the city of Albany, the capi tal of New York.

van Nuys and Reseda are some of the communities evidencing unusual returns. The Valley now records 445,8 1 2 people living in the confines of the city. Surprising Xote A surprising note was the -57 increase in the Pacific Palisades-Brentwood-Bel-Air region. The population figures that 10,000 persons have newly settled in that section of the city. Venice, Palms and West Los Angeles also showed population increases, as did Westchester and the Harbor areas.

Hollywood, south side, east side and the central downtown ateas suffered some population decline, the breakdown indicated. 1500 Crippled Children Have Parly Today It will be a brighter Christmas this year for more than 1500 handicapped youngsters because of a party to be given by the Crippled Children's Society of Los Angeles County. The traditional party Is to be held starting at 7 p.m. at the Crippled Children's Society Center, 325 Adams Blvd. Comedian Jerry Colonna will entertain and children from 3 to 18 years old each will receive a gift and a stocking filled with Christmas goodies.

Assisting Groups The party is being put on with help of the society's affiliates. Among groups aiding are the Gold Diggers, Pi Beta Phi alumnae and junior alumnae, the Happy Helpers, the Crown Guild, the Glendale alumnae of Zeta Tau Alpha and the Emblem Club. Food and gifts are being donated hy many other groups 'and business firms, according to Paul Dietrich, president of tne society. Chairmen Listed General chairman of the party will be Mrs. John Schneider.

Committee chairmen include Mrs. Henry B. Wilder, gifts; Mrs. John H. Schering, shopping; Mrs.

William L. Davis and Mrs. Lindsley Parsons, wrapping; Mrs. G. T.

McNees, Santa Claus helpers; Mrs. Robert Digges, hostesses; Mrs. Ed- ueianey, refreshments Mrs. Charles Martin, invita Mrs. E.

Johnson, deco rations, and Mrs. Frank Nolan entertainment Trojan Squires Plan Christmas Affair for DAPs The Trojan Squires, sopho more men i service organiza tlon at the University of South em California, will hold a Christmas party for 40 Deputy Auxiliary Police boys Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Zeta Beta Tau house, 666 28th St. The boys will come from University, Central and Hollen-beck police stations.

Each boy win receive a gift and SC football movies will be shown after dinner. Squires in charge of arrangements are Bob Friedman, projects chairman, Jerry Monahan, publicity chairman, and Don Fitzgerald, Squires president.
