of 'Stump Run' to Start Tuesday Stage Building, Casting Finished With the completion of casting and construction of local sound stage facilities, filming of "Stump Run" is scheduled to begin Tuesday in the Marcola area. The movie sarring Edgar Buchanan, Slim Pickens, Rand Brooks and Kaye Elhardt will be the first to use the facilities of the newlyformed Oregon Picture Corporation, of which William "Red" Rey. nolds of Eugene, is president. Buchanan, a former Eugenean now of Hollywood, will play Buck Gaskin, chief moonshiner in "Stump Run," and Pickens, known here as an Emerald Empire rodeo clown, will play the moonshiner's brother, Babe. Brooks as a deputy sheriff will provide romantic interest with Miss Elhardt, who will be seen as the sister of the moonshiners.

All four are from Hollywood. Local residents signed for parts in "Stump Run" include Nada Zawodny, as a spinster supporter for prohibition; Harry Kirk, as a personnel man for a government defense plant; Gene Herlocker, mayor and country storekeeper; Vincenz Panny, a mute Indian, the comedy role in the picture. Rudy Pfeiffer and Reynolds, disreputable mountain men; Winslow Cuthbert, absent-minded doctor; Helen Jones, another supporter of prohibition, and Ralph Benedict, a deputy sheriff. All of the local cast members have had experience, including parts in Very Little Theatre and Willamalane Players productions. Other local residents will par: ticipate in extra and bit parts.

Reynolds has leased The Firs Theatre, remodeled the building and built a permanent sound stage which will be used for the first time in the filming of "Stump Run." Another permanent sound stage is a future project of Oregon Picture Corp. Anyone interested in watching the filming can obtain a spectator's pass from the Oregon Picture Corp. office at 1163 Oak Eugene. The screen play for "Stump Run" was written by Rod Peterson of Hollywood, from an orig. inal story by Billie Reynolds and Ralph Benedict of Eugene.

"Red" Reynolds is executive producer for "Stump Run," with men from Hollywood in executive positions as follows: Hugh Hooker, producer; Edward Dew, director; Richard Dixon and C. M. Florence, assistant directors. Victim 'Satisfactory' Joseph Norwin Whittington, 47, Box 345 Eugene, who suffered' chest injuries in a log truck accident last Wednesday, was listed in satisfactory condition Monday at Sacred Heart Hospital. Ex-Eugenean Commissioned For Murals Howard Hall, formerly of Eugene, now head of the Klamath Union High School Art department, Klamath Falls, has been commissioned to paint two murals for the health department suite in the new Lane County courthouse.

Hall said final plans had not been made, but he is working on several ideas. "I hope to include something that will carry out a health research theme," Hall said. He noted that his plans were subject to final approval by the Lane County Art Cimmission. Hall is tentatively planning a semiabstract approach. If plans are approved early in June, Hall hopes to begin work by the middle of the month.

He will arrive in Eugene in June, and probably work at nights on weekends, when the offices are not being used. Hall was reared in Eugene, and is a graduate of the University of Oregon. His mother, Mrs. Marjorie W. Hall, lives at 1991 Garden Avenue, Eugene.

Search Continues A routine search is being continued for a Springfield fishermen who reportedly fell into the McKenzie River near Leaburg and drowned last Monday. The victim, Herman Nile Wagnon, 23, was observed falling into, the water by his wife, who cannot swim. Skin divers and other volunteers have probed the river since the mishap. Scouts Hold Jamborees About 1,500 Boy Scouts in Lane County participated in jamborees over the weekend, just as scheduled, despite heavy rains Saturday and Sunday. Boys of the Klahanie District, which includes Eugene and central Lane County, camped at a site on the Kelly tree farm, two miles south Wendling. In the Three Sisters districts, which includes Springfield and the McKenzie areas, the Scouts camped on Hills Creek, eight miles west of Jasper. Boys of the Bohemia District, which takes in the Cottage Grove area, camped at the Blue Mountain Recreation area on Mosby Creek, about eight miles southwest of Cottage Grove. Awards for camping skills were awarded Sunday night in the Klahanie and Three Sisters districts.

The Bohemia district will present awards Tuesday night. EUGENE Golden Age Club will meet for program and dancing Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Washing. ton Park Recreation Center. Bring sandwiches.

Young 'Santa' Loses Pants A 11-year-old Eugene boy lost his pants while making an unsuccessful attempt to duplicate a Santa Claus trip down a fireplace chimney late Saturday. A resident on West 20th Avenue told city police this story: He heard cries of help coming from a house under construction in that area. An investigation revealed that a boy had become trapped in the chimney above the fireplace damper.

The resident lowered a rope to the hauled him "up on the housetop." The boy didn't loiter long, however, because he was minus pants, which had been pulled during the tight pull up the row chimney. Police, who checked the incident, said the boy was unhurt. St. Francis High School in Eugene, was somewhat a controversial contestant before last Saturday's contest. There had been talk that she shouldn't participate in the contest because she wasn't from the Springfield area.

The Springfield Troutlanders, a booster arm of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, issued a statement recently to the effect that the Troutlanders would not ask the Miss Springfield winner, if she should reside outside the Springfield area, to participate in local booster functions. The Troutlanders in past years have taken Miss Springfield to such functions as the White Water Boat Parade, the Florence Rhododendron Festival, and other events.
