Tbe heavy rain, and consequent high water, of Saturday, washed tbe road and baa rendered that part leading along the creek between this place and House's Chapel almost impassable. --Tbe heavy rains daring tbe past few days have refreabesed vegetation wonderfully, which was back considerably for tbe season. A great deal of corn has been planted. DRUID HIUU, APRIL 30. Some of our farmers nave finished planting corn, wbOe many otben have just commenced. --The wheat and (trass are showing np nicely and the prospect bids fair fora good crop of each.

--Mrs. John Baker, who has been a great sufferer for sometime, passed away on laat Sunday night Her remains were laid at rest in Reformed cemetery on Tuesday following. --Tbe game of base ball played on tbe 15th, between the Urbana and Park Mills nines, at Urbana, resulted in favor of the utter by a score of 25 to 15 Dr.T. Hendry and J. Perrell were tbe umpires. Mr. John Brinker, teamster for Messrs. Uonucb Son, was kicked in Hie side by one of tbelr horses, causing him considerable pain. --The men engaged in digging holes tor the poles ot tbe Western Maryland Telephone Company, at ten cents a hole, struck on Tbunday for an Increase of fire cents a bole. The President called a meeting and gave them an increase of 8ve cents a hole.

Staley, of this place, on Sunday last. --Mr. Howard Shankle, of this place. paid a visit to his lady friend on Sunday night laat. --Quite a number of and gentlemen from different points visited the celebrated Montonqua Springs during laat week.

A fine rain began falling here on Saturday morning last, which was of great benefit to the growing wheat, gran aad vegetation. Owing to the late rains our fanners have been delayed in getting their ground ready for corn planting. Some of them haVe commenced planting. A large acreage of potatoes has been planted In this vicinity. On account of the inclement weather then was no service at Pleasant Hill Chapel on last Sunday.

AVXKT-- APRIL 30 --The farmers are busy hauling lime. --Arbor Day was celebrated by agaate of base ball between the Rtdlaud Athletes and the College boys of this place, tbe pitying making a close game, 3 to 4 in favor of the Athletes. The young ladies of the neighborhood and the school treated them very handsomely to cake and lemonade. Mr. Marion Fraley was Injured, bat not seriously, in the second inning, which rendered him unable to finish tbe game.

Suman. contractor and builder of this place, is very busy this spring. He has just completed a fine house for Albert A. Boyer, on his farm near Jefferson, and is now erecting a bnggy-bhed aad a wash bouse for Franklin L. Bow- Ins near ber.

On Monday next be will go to Deerneld, Jefferson county, W. to erect a 40 toot addition to tbe birn on tbe farm of Wm, Holer. FOUNTAIN KILLS--MAT 1. --This place was visited by the freezes sometime ago and several cases are reported. Tour correspondent is among tbe number at this writing.

--Mr. George Crumbangh, of this place, spent Sunday last witb his parents of Dublin. --Mr. Elmer Clem, of Lewlstown, and Mr. Hatry Clem, of tils -place, spent several days of last week with relatives In KUlcottCIty, and also attended the wedding of their cousin, Miaa Florence King, of that place.

Grouse and children, from Westminster, spent Sunday here on a visit to Mn. Cronse's Mr. and Mrs. Route. --George Eontz, wao has been suffering with rheumatism for some time, left on Tuesday for Hot Springs, Arkansas.

He hopes that a change of- climate and the use of the waters there will be a benefit to his health. --Jesse Bufflngton, from Falrfield.Pa,, is visiting relatives and friends here. --The Carroll C. S. win hold its eighth semi-annual convention in the Lutheran church of this place on May 10th, llth and 12th.

Tbe president, Mr. Geo. H. Blrale, has been making every effort to secure good speakers and the program will be one of the oest ever presented before any of the conventions, --Miss dandle Billot and brother ar rived here on Saturday on a visit to relatives and friends. Valentine, proprietor of the Buck Forest Roller Mills, -while on his -way to Frederick with a load of flour last Monday, at Oeresville bridge met with quite a painful accident, which might have been serious. His hone began kicking, knocking tho dash-board off and cutting an ugly gash in his leg Just below tbe knee-cap, which made Mr. Valentine very sick for a little white. He went on his way to Frederick and had the wound dressed by DC.

James McEensle Is bound to be In tbe lead. He has got np all of bis bean poles and Is preparing to plant his lima Mr. McKensie is a first class tracker. --Many of our fanners have planted their corn, and In a few days the crop around here wOl have been planted. --Billy Tyler, who used to be the polite and efficient clerk at Montevne, is now bard at work.

He Is preparing to plant beans and truck. He has a large number of friends throughout tbta section. --Tbe mountains near here were set afire on Thursday morning about seven o'clock. It did a great deal of damage; at one time the fire was surrounded and nearly conquered. Some one set It on fire airaln abont 200 yards below tbe fire line making all tbe work that had been done useless.

We cannot see why people will be so devilish to do such work; it is no joke, they cannot brag at and It a poor way to take revenge. The following mountain lots were burnt over: Daniel Main's, John Con-ell's, Mr. Coblentz's, Mr. Dean's, Jonathan Main's, Fralery's lot, Brnnner's lot and Gladhill's. This fire was at a bad time as tbe sap was up.

Lewis btanb died of the dropsy on Saturday last, aged 65 years His remains were Interred at Bethel Church yard on Tuesday, April 23, at 1 p. m. Mr. Barb, of Tbnrmont, conducted tbe services. --Mrs.

Susan Mfller, of thte place, is visiting friends in Middletown valley. --Mr. Cbas. Martin has returned from Gettysburg, where be had been visiting. --Miss Ooasle Thompson Is still confined to ber room at Dr.

McPherson's front the result of her accident. --A number of men from here are engaged in the mountains in Virginia peeling bark. --Mr. Joe Stitely was visiting parents and friends here. --A number from here attended prayer meeting on Saturday night in the mountain at Mr.

--There are many rumors flying around that the furnace will start np soon and that it has been sold. and Mrs. Grant Ogle, of near Loy's, Intend celebrating tbelr wooden wedding, which is the fifth anniversary, on this evening, April 29th.
