-J THE VIOLIN a good instrument to itart a child in music lessons. 4 detective captain, a far cry from today smooth, scientific sleuth. Also the reporter is nearer the movie version than the real thing, brash, hard-looking, and sloppily dressed. Play Role Well Samuel J. Friedman as the detective plays it well, but could use a little more restraint.

In the last two acts there Is a mere human and sympathetic side to the role, which he also gets the most; out of. The young reporter, played by Elliot is probably the best role in the show, with intelligence, humor, and a cheerful cynicism, except where a pretty face is concerned. Mr. Alexander is completely natural in his portrayal. David Coghian has the difficult role of the prominent doctor whose wife is the victim.

The character is intense and complex, and all its best points must be brought out by unierstatement lest he give himself away. Mr. Coghian does all this very well. Betty Foulk. one of the Drama League's most promising young actresses, is good in the ingenue role of the convicted man's sister, who alone, believes him Innocent, and gets the reporter to help her prove it Another new addition to the league, Peggy Harmon, makes her debut in the part of a gangster's Her interpretation saves the role from being stereotyped, and makes it believable and.

in the end. even sympathetic. John Walmsley, as her gangster husband, is good as always in his one laconic scene. Another, good supporting role. Just the opposite men at tthe University of Delaware will be among the guests.
