While living in Oak Park, she was an interpreter at the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio. Patty and Chris retired to Cushing, Maine, and then moved to Piper 1 --n. Shores retirement commu-. Mr. Mould pre- HENRY RIDGELY HORSEY AGE: 91 and Justice Horsey's grandfather Henry Ridgely and grandmother, Mabel Lloyd Ridgely, president of the Delaware Women's Suffrage Society, first president of the Delaware League of Women Voters, and noted preservationist who helped save the colonial Delaware State House. Justice Horsey grew up in Dover, DE, and spent his summers in Rehoboth Beach, DE. Upon graduation from the Loomis School in Windsor, CT, he was drafted into the U.S. Army.

He served for three years during World War II, first in the Infantry and later in the Combat Engineers, with two years spent in the European theatre. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Sergeant and entered Harvard College followed by Harvard Law School, graduating in 1952. Justice Horsey was admitted to the Delaware Bar in 1953 and practiced law in Wilmington, DE, at Berl, Potter and Anderson (now Potter, Anderson Caroon) from 1953 to 1962. From 1962 until 1965, Justice Horsey served as a trust officer and Assistant Vice President of the Wilmington Trust Company. He then returned to the practice of law in Dover, where he joined the Delaware Attorney General's office and operated a solo law practice.

In 1969, he joined the Dover office of Morris, James, Hitchens Williams, where he remained until 1978 when he was appointed to the Delaware Supreme Court. Justice Horsey brought to the Court an intellectual curiosity, a dedication to hard work, and an innate sense of fairness. During his 16-year tenure on the Court, Jus tice Horsey authored more than 200 published opinions, many of which became landmark decisions. His life work included helping preserve his ancestral home, which has been in the family since prior to the Revolutionary War. In the 1970s he worked with Governor Russell W.

Peterson to win passage of the Coastal Zone Act. In 1989, he established the first protective sand dunes in Rehoboth Beach, despite resistance from the city. To this day, those dunes protect the beach communities and homes along the shore. He was preceded in death by his sister Phillipa Lloyd Horsey Scheller. He is survived by his seven children Henry Ridgely Horsey Edmond P.

DeV. Horsey, Alexandra Therese Seibert, R. Revell Horsey, Phillipa Ridgely Biddle, Robert Wolfe Horsey, and Josephine Elizabeth Horsey and 11 grandchildren; and his wife Linda George Horsey and her four children Amy George Rush, Mary Noel George, Martin George, and Anthony George and three grandchildren. Justice Horsey was previously married to Alexandra Leigh-Hunt, deceased, and Ann Baker Horsey of Dover. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m.

on Saturday, April 2, at All Saints' Church in Rehoboth Beach. A private interment will take place at Christ Church Dover. Memorial donations, which will support dune restoration and preservation along the Delaware coast, may be mailed to BMO Harris Bank, Justice Henry R. NORMA ARLENE PHILLIPS age 81, of Newark, Delaware passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, surrounded by family. She is survived by her son, Charles Phillips, her daughter, Charlene Ventura, four grandchildren, Meghan Schubert, Joseph Ventura, Christopher Ventura, and Nicole Ventura, and three great-grandchildren, Alexis Ventura, Avery Ventura, and Alyssa Ventura. Norma was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Charles Grant Phillips, Sr. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 11:00 am, at Skypointe Church 807 N. Union St.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware on July 22, 1934, she grew up in Wilmington and New Castle. She was the daughter of the late Joshua Danforth Bush, Jr. and Annette Mason Bush Reese, and stepdaughter of the late Charles Lee Reese, Jr. She was a graduate of St. Anne's School in Charlottesville, VA, and a 1955 graduate of Radcliffe College.

After college, she moved to Washington, DC, where she met a small group of lifelong best friends and her first husband. She worked for the Central Intelligence Agency. After her children were born, she became deeply involved in many nonprofit causes, including the Junior League of Washington and Planned Parenthood. She was a member of the Colonial Dames of America. Despite more progressive political leanings later in life, she was an active volunteer in local, county and state Republican elections, showing particular dedication to U.

S. Senator Charles "Mac" Mathias and his campaigns. She was also active in the Civil Rights movement in Washington and volunteered at St. Stephen and the Incarnation Church. She later worked for the Association of Junior Leagues from 1972 to 1980 and was the Director of the Washington office of the YMCA from 1980 to 1985.

Henry Ridgely Horsey, 91, former justice of the Delaware Supreme Court, died peacefully at home in St. Louis on March 3, 2016. Justice Horsey was born Oct. 18, 1924, at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, DE, to the late Harold Wolfe Horsey and Philippa Elizabeth Ridgely Horsey. During his lifetime, Justice Horsey applied his intellect and wisdom to the practice of law, rulings on corporate governance, and advocacy for environmental protection and historic preservation.

He served on the Delaware Supreme Court from 1978 through 1994. As a jurist and public servant, he continued a family tradition that spans 275 years. His Ridgely ancestors included Judge Nicholas Ridgely; his grandson Nicholas Ridgely the Younger, who served as Attorney General of Delaware from 1791 to 1801 and later as Chancellor from 1801 to 1830; Henry Moore Ridgely, the half-brother of Nicholas, who served as Delaware's Representative in Congress and later as a United States Senator; Justice Horsey's great grandfather, Edward Ridgely, a jurist and Secretary of State; Carl Frederick Jumps, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016. Carl was born in 1924 in Watertown, NY, and grew up in the Village of Dexter in upstate NY. He graduated from Dexter High School where he played basketball and was Class President.

He attended the State University of New York College of Technology, Canton, NY, from 1942-43 and was Class President and a member of the Theta Nu Fraternity. In March, 1943, he joined the war effort, along with many of his classmates, having to defer his studies. A veteran of World War II, Carl proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946 with the 14th Infantry Regiment, 71st Infantry Division and was a Staff Sergeant in the European Theater. The 71st was assigned to General Patton's 3rd Army.

As part of the push to capture Berlin, the 71st was credited with eliminating one of the last remaining German DORIS GRANT SHIRK AGE: 96 LEWES Known for her infectious laugh, determined opinions, and relentless intellect; Patty inspired many young people to engage politically and to push themselves in challenging directions. She loved her family and friends, art, architecture, history, preservation, opera, theater and public policy. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Bankson Newton, and husband Jeff of Concord, MA; her son, John Palmer Bankson III, and wife Mary Beth of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren Avery Newton, Lindsay Newton, Madeline Bankson, Chase Newton, and Walker Bankson; and three beloved granddogs. She is also survived by her sister, Annette Bush Doolittle, and husband Bill of Washington, DC; nephew Dan Doolittle and niece Alice Doolittle; her sister-in-law, Sibyl Martin, and husband Tim of Bedford, MA; two stepdaughters, Tracy Mould Watson of Mt. Pleasant, MI, and Jennifer Mould Gervase of Valparaiso, IN; and a stepgrand-daughter.

Her children wish to thank every employee of Piper Shores for their incredible care, devotion and compassion for the past 13 years, and particularly throughout her final illness. Thanks, too, for appreciating Patty's wit, humor, and sweetness. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 2 in New Castle and Wilmington, Delaware. After obtaining a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1950, he began work as an Electrical Engineer with Delaware Power and Light Company in Wilmington, DE, rising to the position of Supervisor of System Planning before retiring in 1983. He was involved in numerous volunteer activities throughout his life including Board Member and various positions with the Chatham Civic Association; Committee Chair for Troop 66 Boy Scouts of America; Past Chairman for DE Bay Section, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE); Past Chairman for PowerIndustry General Applications Joint Group Chapter, IEEE; Past Secretary, Philadelphia Section, Clarkson Alumni Association; Member, Civ A3A Doris Grant Shirk, 96 of Lewes, DE, died March 12, 2016 at Cadbury Skilled Nursing, Lewes, DE. Mrs. Shirk was born on September 22, 1919 in Newark, DE, daughter of the late John and Tannie Apsley Grant.

In 1941 she received her nursing degree from Delaware Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Union Hospital as night supervisor and Kent Queen Anne's Hospital. She and her husband owned and operated Shirk's Seafood in Freder-icktown and Chesapeake City. Mrs. Shirk was past president of Kent County PTA, a Sunday school teacher and for 26 years volunteered at Union Hospital Nearly New Shop She had lived in Elkton, Rock Hall, Galena and North East before moving to Lewes in 2007.

She was preceded in death ic Affairs Committee, DE Council of Engineering Societies; Member, Light Masters Square Club; and Meals on Wheels. He was a member and usher at Concord Presbyterian Church. Carl cherished time with his family and enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, and vacations at Guffin Bay on Lake Ontario. Spending time there with his brother and family members, visiting old friends, boating, bass fishing, and swimming were favorite activities. Carl is predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Lu-cile (Youngs) Jumps and his brother, Richard M.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Merilyn; two children, Douglas Jumps (Cheryl) of Wilmington, DE, and Connie Hughes (Ray) of Richmond, VA; four grandchildren, Steven and Michael Jumps of Wilmington, DE, and Brett and Blake Hughes of Richmond, VA, and three step-grandchildren, Shari, Logan and Ma-rissa Barker of Wilmington, DE. Wittland, age 73 of Wilmington, DE passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 10, 2016. Joyce was a nurse retired from Christiana Care after 47 years of service. She was a member of St. Elizabeth's Church where she was treasurer of the BVM Sodality. Joyce also loved pets and enjoyed bowling.

She was predeceased by her parents, Grace and Thomas Wittland; her brother in law, Anthony Sadowski, her niece, Kathleen Sutfin and her nephew, Thomas Sadowski. She is survived by her sisters, Susan DeMaio (Jim) and Patricia Sadowski and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Woody graduated from Wilmington High School in 1949, and served his country in the US Navy and the Naval Reserve. He retired from the DuPont Company after 40 years of service, with most of those years spent working alongside close lifelong friends at the Experimental Station. After retirement, he served in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary at the Indian River Coast Guard Station.
