Work At Red Cross Canteen Red Cross women who recently opened a canteen at the New Castle Army Air Base for service men flown home from Europe by the 2nd Foreign Transport Group are having a difficult problem.

The returnees, whom it would appear have had their fill of kitchen police duty in the Army, are so appreciative of the accorded them by the women, that they insist on cleaning the dishes in the kitchen and helping the Red Cross workers clean up. The canteen workers complain that the men aren't supposed to help. But the veterans, after finishing a snack, roll up their sleeves and dig right in to the dishes and silverware. A base officer remarked: "It would do some tough mess sergeants good to see this." Yesterday canteen workers fed 280 returnees, including nurses and WAC's, In addition to patients on a hospital ship which stopped at the base. The workers yesterday included Mrs.
