chief of naval operations, celebrated his 59th birthday yesterday by sharing a 40-pound cake with crewmen of the 7th Fleet flagship. McDonald, on a 10-day tour of Navy and Marine operations in the Far East. told the Oklahoma City's crew that as a desk-bound sailor he could think of no nicer way to spend his birthday. Dwight D. Eisenhower said that after his stroke in 1957 he considered resigning as President because of doubts that he could bear the burden.

He made the disclosure in his new book. Waging Peace, 1956-1960," the second volume of his presidential memoirs, and expanded on it in an interview at Gettysburg. Pa. A test he set was to attend a conference of the North American Treaty Organization in Paris. If he could successfully participate.

of 120 Kells Newark, died yesterday in Delaware Hospital. Mr. Hamilton, who owned the Perfeiope Manufacturing Co. of Newark. invented and patented a process for the continuous printing of envelopes.

He was a native of Appalachia, and lived in Newark for 38 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Newark, Rotary Club. American Legion, Craftsman Club of Philadelphia and I served as secretary and treasurer of the Newark Chamber of Commerce. Surviving are his widow. Mrs.

Mary E. Hamilton: a son, Daniel of Newark: a brother, Ross, of West Bradenton, and a sister, Mrs. Patsy Williams, of Appalachia. Services will be at 2 Wednesday afternoon in the First Presbyterian Church, W. Main Newark.

Interment will be in Head of Christiana Cemetery. There will be no viewing. John J. Godsell John J. Godsell.

84. of 13 W. Minuet Drive. Manor Park. died yesterday in St.

Joseph's Home for the Aged. 401 N. Bancroft Parkway, after a long illness. Mr. Godsell, who was retired.

moved to Manor Park from New York City 10 years ago and made his home with his daughter. Mrs. Catherine G. Smith. Besides Mrs.

Smith, he is survived by two grandchildren. Solemn Requiem Mass will be offered Wednesday morning at 9:30 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Du Pont Highway, Wilmington Manor. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery. There will be no viewing.

Errigo to Be Feted By Sons of Italy Joseph A. L. Errigo, Wilmington public safety commissioner. will be honored at a testimonial dinner tomorrow of the Grand Lodge of Delaware. Order of the Sons of Italy in America.

W. Jayne, Ill Briefly, Dead at 85 David W. Jayne 85. a former resident of Wilmington, died Saturday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Marion Berguido.

Haverford, after a brief illness. Mr. Jayne was born in Paris while his father was completing graduate work in chemical engineering In France and Germany. His grandfather was the founder of the D. W.

Jayne Medicine an internaItional patent medicine manu(facturing concern. Mr. Jayne was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and began his business career with the Barrett Co. in Philadelphia and New York. He joined development department of the Du Pont Co.

In 1928. moving to Westover Hills where he lived until he retired 20 years later. For two years after his retirement from the Du Pont Co. he was an industrial consultant for Laird Co. an investment brokerage concern.

He resigned this post to take up permanent retirement in Ocean City, N.J.. where he lived until the death of his wife, the former Mary Such. 10 years ago. Since then he had made his home with Mrs. Berguido.

He was a member of the Merion Cricket Club and the American Chemical Society. which recently honored him after 50 years' membership. In addition to Mrs. Berguido, survivors are a son, David W. Jayne of Stamford, and a daughter, Mrs.

Phyllis Fowler of Wilmington, 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grand children. Funeral services will be held at the Frankenfield and Chadwick Funeral Home in Ardmore, tomorrow afternoon at 2. Interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, near Wilming- Samuel Slovin Samuel Slovin, 78. of 404 Irving Drive, Brandywine Hills, died yesterday at Wilmington General Hospital after a long illness. Mr.

Slovin, who lived in Wilmington for 50 years, was retired as president of Wilmington Waste Materials, 418 Front St. He was a member of Workman's Circle, Branch 69. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Rebecca Slovin; three sons. Al.

Dr. Isadore and Milton, all of Wilmington; a daugh-11, ter, Miss Beatrice Slovin, of Wilmington; Rothblatt three and sisters, Mrs. Gussie Aaron Sidman. both of Phila delphia, and Mrs. Becky Keiman of Wilmington; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 this afternoon at Schoenberg Memorial Chapel, 14th and West Sts. Interment will be in the Jewish Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kutz Home for the Aged. 704 River Road. Bellefonte.

8:58 p.m. -Delaware 299, Middletown Miss Elizabeth Howard Ellis, 90, died Saturday at the Rest Haven Nursing Home, where she had lived since July. Miss Ellis, formerly of New York City, came to Wilmington last October to live with a nephew, Howard Ellis, at 229 Thomas Drive, Monroe Park. She was the daughter of the late Howard Ellis. a former counselor -general in The Netherlands.

Educated in Brussels and at Dartmouth. Columbia and Harvard. Miss Ellis held degrees in law, divinity and philosophy. After many years as a teacher. principal and administrator in the New York City public school system.

Miss Ellis retired at the age of 75. There are no immediate survivors. The funeral was this mornfrom the Chandler Funeral Home. 1011 Jefferson with interment in Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson. N.J.

Evangelist Billy Graham, recuperating from surgery on his prostate gland, had a "very. very uncomfortable dav." at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester. Minn. King St. Woman Stricken at Home Mrs.

Charlotte Grant, 39, of 223 King was pronounced dead on arrival at Delaware Hospital Saturday after she was stricken at her home. Wilmington police said death apparently was due to natural causes. Deputy Coroner Edward R. Bell is investigating. Miss Elizabeth Howard Ellis State police are investigating the burglary of a television set from the Dunleith Community School.

Dad, 2 Boys Badly Hurt In Collision Three members of a Wilmington family were admitted to Wilmington General Hospital yesterday afternoon with injuries sustained in a three-car collision at 4th and Broom Sts. Daniel Weddington, 13, of 307 N.

Broom St. was reported in poor condition today. His father, Harry Weddington, 42. and brother Anthony, 14, were in fair condition. Sylvester Miles, 19, of 700 E.

5th injured in the same accident was treated at the hospital and released. police said an auto driven by James Favors. 26. of 1216 Stubbs Court, collided with another at 6:10 p.m. after the second car had been in an accident with Weddington's auto.

The driver of the second car fled from the scene, according to police. Mrs. Lillian S. Coe Vickie L. Williams, 2.

Kynlyn Apartments, was pronounced dead on arrival at Delaware Hospital this morning. The child was under a doctor's care for a heart condition, according to the family. The New Castle County coroner's official is investigating the cause of death. In addition to her parents, child is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jean Ervin.

Radnor Green. and Mrs. Joyce Waltzer, Sunnyvale. and five brothers. Albert Williams, Elsmere, Stewart Lee Williams, San Bernardino, Jay Gehrke, Los Altos, Lee Gehrke, Redwood City, and Larry Gehrke, at home.

Wyeth's Son James Joins Air Guard James B. Wyeth has enlisted in the Delaware Air National Guard. The son of artist Andrew Wyeth will report to the U.S. Air Force basic training center at Lackland Air Force Base. and after training will be assigned to the Air Guard's information section as an illustrator.

Surviving her are two sisters, Mrs. John Marra of Wilmington and Mrs. David Lemon of Silverbrook Gardens, and three brothers, Anthony of Newport Heights, Matthew of Pleasant Hills and Peter of Elsmere. Solemn Requiem Mass will be offered at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 9th and Du Pont Wednesday morning at 9:30 with burial in Cathedral Cemetery.

J. Desmond Mrs. Julia Desmond, 88. widow of Cornelius J. Desmond, died yesterday at Daybreak Lodge, 2801 W.

6th after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Desmond was born in Iowa, but had lived, in Wilmington for more years. She was a member of the Blessed Virgin Sodality at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 10th and Madison Sts. She is survived by two sons, Cornelius J.

and Paul of the Wilmington area, 18 grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Cornelius Cremin of Wilmington and a brother, James Healy of New York City. Broom tomorrow night. George H. Schnaufer George H. Schnaufer, 92, died today in the State Home, Smyrna, after a short illness. He had made his home previously with a niece, Mrs.

Marguerite M. Novak, 221 Keiser Place, Collins Park. He entered the home a month ago. A retired boiler maker of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, he was a member of Hazelton Lodge 202. Loyal Order of Moose.

Besides Mrs. Novak, he is survived by several other nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be in Union Cemetery, Weatherly, Thursday afternoon at 1. There will be no viewing. Mrs.

A. P. Runions Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Runions, 66. of 505 West died in Wilmington General Hospital yesterday.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include her husband, Allen two daughters, Mrs. Doris Moore of Wilmington and Mrs. Phyllis Hall of Delaware City; a son, Frank Lambert of Wilmington: a stepson, Allen P. Runions Jr.

of Wilmington, seven grandchildren, and 10 greatgrandchildren. Services will be at 4 tomorrow afternoon at the Fellows Funeral Home, Millington, where friends may call tonight after 7. John T. Hayes John T. Hayes, 88, of 100 Duncan McDaniel Heights, died Friday in Wilmington General Hospital.

Mr. Hayes, a native of Ireland. lived in Wilmington more than 50 years. He was retired from the Du Pont Co. He was a member of the Holy Name Society at St.

Paul's Catholic Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Jane Keating Hayes; a son, John of McDaniel Heights; and three grandchildren. Solemn Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 tomorrow morning in St. Paul's Church, 4th and Jackson Sts.
