IDAHO SUNDAY JOURNAL Sunday, December 7, 1958-15 Portland Upsets Bobcats; ISC Loses to Utah State Rodgers, Jolley Lead Pilots To 5J-49 Win Portland University overcame a 14-point deficit with less than seven minutes to go in the final half and Ihcn oulhustlcd favored Montana State to s'lore a 57-49 victory in the opening round of Ihe ISC Invitational tourney Friday night. -Montana State took advantage of Portland's inefficiency to hit from the field and built a point 27-13 lead but the Pilots found the range in the closing minutes of Ihe first half and narrowed the gap lo eight 29-21, by halftimc. Larry Chanay, 5-4 forward, guards Al Harris and Jim Wallace paced the early Bohcnl at- as Chanay accounted for 12 points with Harris and Wallace collecting six and nine respectively during Ihe first half. The Pilots five oppor (unities from Ihe foul line in the firsl 20 minutes and made good on one ol these. Center Chuck Rogers 6-C, and li-5 forward Elmcn Bloede teamed to take control of Ihe back hoards with three minutes remain ipg in the opening stanza and re serve guard James O'Donnell can tied four quick points with Dlocde adding a bucket to guide the Pilots back into the gome.

Coach John Grayson's Bengals showed plenty of hustle and spiri and pulled even with the Utah State quintet in the final seven minutes of the half. John Bethke, 6-6 ISC center, was high point man in the game with 20 points.

The eight second bai stealing show was one of the big gest thrills ever witnessed by cagi fans in the Bengal gym.
