Wells, Valley Union at ASD 66- Pueblo at St" Mary's and Tuc- son at West Phoenix SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 24, I960 MARTINEZ PASSING LEADER THS's Doty, Sims Lead City Rushers By BOB FELDMAN Dick Martinez, bidding to become Pueblo's third straight city passing champ, upped his lead oh the Citizen passing chart last night as six local teams saw prep football action. Top positions in the rushing and scoring races, meanwhile, were grabbed by a trio of Tucson Badgers. Jim Doty scored on a yard run, kicked three extra points and racked up 142 yards on the ground as THS trampled North Phoenix. This left the speedy junior halfback with city-pacing totals of 181 yards and 21 points in two contests. Teammate Jim Sims jumped to second in rushing with 158 yards, followed closely by Ron Stark of Flowing'Wells, Freddy Reece of Salpointe and George Jackson of Amphi.

Reece, last week's leader, was idled by Brophy's forfeit to Salpointe, but still shows the best average with 10.7 yards per carry. TUtSON'S Florence dler took over the runnerup spot in scoring by tallying his second and third TD's of the season. Five others have scored 12 points. While other local quarterbacks met with little passing success, Martinez completed five aerials for 67 yards against Yuma. The Warrior signal-caller now has 208 yards on eight completions for a 64-yard edge over Catalina's Tom Murphy.

i Should Martinez wind up with the passing crown, he would follow in the footsteps of Larry Toledo and Bobby Del Castillo, who each turned the trick for Coach Lou Farber in the past two seasons. FOUR old Pueblo Tucson, Flowing Wells, Am- phi and unbeaten by" winning their second straight games.
