The Canadian school is in its second year of wrestling. Saturday, the Jacks varsity will entertain Coleraine atSwiththe Bteam match at 6:30. The Jacks cagers will be looking for their third straight win and a chance to go over the .500 mark. They reached an even record Monday with a runaway triumph over Cass Lake to stand 4-4 on the year. Thief River, after an impressive opening triumph over Detroit Lakes, a team that ripped Bemidji 58-40, has been slumping since and also stands 4-4 after a 71-50 pasting by Littlefork a team Bemidji defeated 47-43.

The Prowlers also struggled to beat Crookston 58-52 while Bemidji flattened the Pirates 81-41, And in competition against International Falls, Thief River triumphed 70-60 at home while Bemidji won 67-39 at the Falls. The Prowlers fourth win was over Oslo while losses were suffered at the hands of Grafton, Fargo North and South. Center Sheldon Joppru (6-3 sr), the Northwest Conference's Most Valuable Playerduringthe football season, is the top scoring threat for Thief River. His running mates will be Steve Edlund (6-0 sr) amd Don Balmer (6-1 jr) at the corners with Dan Brodin (5-10 sr) and Tony I. Kirkvold 54(1.

Johnson (5-6 sr) at the guards. Brodin is a brother-in-law of former Lumberjack center Larry McDowell. Bemidji will probably counter with Greg Beaumont andDwight Degerman at the guards, Tony Burke at center with Wayne Olson at one corner and either Dave Rose, Jerry Oelrich or Al Lyseng at the other. Lyseng looked impressive in his first start against Cass Lake, hitting for 11 points. There's also the possibility that Tom Hill could see some spot duty.

Hill, sidelined following a knee operation in November, began workouts this week. He figures to break into the starting lineup once he gets into top shape. With Burke and Degerman picking up the scoring punch, Hill's return could give the Jacks a solid offense. Other top reserves include guard Jim Yost and forwards Bill Hubbell, Gary Vogel and Craig Groslie. Game time will be, 8:00 with the game at 6:30.

INDUS SPOILER The Jacks sextet will be out to snap back from its loss to Warroad and start a new winning string tonight. They had better be ready for Indus, however, which is again playing a spoiler role in the northern division. The Trojans are 6-3 on the season and in fourth place in Dave Howe the division standings behind Warroad, Bemidji and Roseau. Except for an upset loss at Crookston, they would be breathing down the necks of the leaders. Ironically, Indus bowed to Warroad 7-4, the same score by which the Warriors stopped Bemidji.

The Trojans defeated Baudette 4-1 and Bemidji beat the Bears 3-1. Indus will be led by high scoring Mario Mellum who has already turned in at least three hat tricks this winter and goalie Mel Noga, the Most Valuable Player at the Detroit Lakes Christmas tournament. The use of the new International Falls arena for most of its home games also had aided the Trojans play this winter. Bemidji will go with its normal alignment which will find Tom Reise centering for Scott Staples and Mike Langlie, Gary Sargent between Bob Howe and Larry Baumgartner and Keith Baumgartner skating with Dave Howe and Ed Demery on the wings. Gary Johnson will center for Larry Jaycox and Dennis Berglund if the fourth line sees action.

Mark Atkinson, Ernie Blackburn and Jeff Baumgartner head the defense with Bob Hoffman and Steve Torgerson in reserve. Steve Weber will be in the nets back by Dan Ward. Bemidji will take a 12-2 season's record into the contest while their Region point standing is also 12-2. A limited number of tickets remain and the fee will be $3.00 round trip. Roseau has a fine sextet as two of the skaters were named this week to the WCCO Prep Parade team.

They are forward Earl Anderson and goalie Mike Kvarnlov. Also top stars with Roseau are the Harris boys who play golf here in the summer time. Tonight Jim Smalley's skaters meet Indus at International Falls. The game won't be carried over KBUN. The local station will have the Beaver-Manitoba game on live, then bring in a delayed broadcast of the Lumberjack basketball game from Thief River Falls.

Tom Hill is back with the 'Jacks and may see some action tonight. Our Lumberjack junior hockey squad traveled to Detroit Lakes yesterday and came home with a 6-1 victory. Earl Sargent and Jeff Hoffman each whipped in two goals, while Dick Howe and Lee Olson had one each. This Saturday Wayne Thorson takes his squad up to Thief River Falls. Cage coaches Dave Hutchins and Bun Fortier both have important contests facing them this weekend.

The 'Jacks play up at Thief River Falls tonight, while the Beavers host Morris here at 7:30 Saturday. Top game in the NIC this week finds the two favorites bumping heads down at Moorhead. The 10-1 Dragons face Red Severson's Huskies with an 8-4 record. Moorhead is 2-0 in NIC, while St. Cloud is making its first start.

The Walker Warriors had a nice writeup in Ted Peterson's Minneapolis Tribune report this morning. The 7-0 Warriors coach Tom Lawrence admits to having good material this winter. They get their big test up at Littlefork, Big Falls Feb. 15. This comes right about rating time for the District 29 tourney.

Walker, Littlefork Big Falls and Bemidji will be the top three but in which order is another question. I'd rate the 'Jacks No. 1, but then I don't have a vote. the fine LF Bi 9 FBlls 6 the WCCO Prep Parade team of the week for his fine play against Thief River Falls and Oslo on the Vikings last road trip. Chet Anderson's Beaver wrestlers fought off the North Dakota Sioux to win a close 23-21 dual match here last night.

The Lumberjack B-squad wrestlers host Rainy River here tonight at 8 p.m., then Saturday comes a big test for the varsity against Coleraine. Also at 6 p.m. tonight the 'Jacks squad hosts Bagley in a preliminary. The bowling pins took a beating at the Bemidji Bowl again yesterday. In the Ladies Center League, Ruth Baker hit games of 266-189-158 for a fine 613 series.

Mrs. Baker just missed winning the TV being given away by Kordel's. She needed but seven more pins to reach the 273 score. In the men's All-Star League four 600's were turned in. Stylish Jimmy Wynne hit a 642 topped by games of 246 and 215.

Jim Bell hit a 619, Mern "Red" Walters a 615 and Len Hammerstrom a 609. Fishing derby followers have three straight weeks of area contests coming up.
