Report Dauber Sold to Texan For $40,000 New Owner to Rest Ace, Saving Him for Rich Winter Season INGLEWOOL, July 7-(P -Dauber, ailing Preakness vinner, was reported sold for $40,000 today while his arch rival, Lawrin, Kentucky Derby champion, joined him on the shelf.

Although a bowed tendon forced Dauber out of the $50,000 3-yearold stakes at Hollywood Park last week E. Fogelson, Texas oil man, has agreed to pay William C. du' Pont's Fox-Catcher Farm $40,000 for the chestnut stallion, it was learned. Fogelson plans to keep Dauber inactive for at least three months, train him slowly for the winter season at Santa Anita, with its $100,000 handicap. Lawrin, winner of last week's rich stakes, pulled up yesterday with what Trainer Ben Jones described as the same kind of leg injury that befell Dauber.

He blamed the frequent watering of the track for the mishaps. Jones won't be sure until possibly tomorrow how long Lawrin will be out of competition, but offered to bet "one thousand to one" that his big colt would not go near the Hollywood $50,000 Gold Cup handicap July 16, much less the Hollywood $15,000 Derby this Saturday. They think they owe it to him." Trosky's blast, the paper said, apparently was not aimed at any of the players, but rather at the powers which chose the squad. "My teammates and even the members of the Detroit and Boston teams think I should have at least been named to the squad.
