In 1981, the Wilmington Jewish Community Center honored Mrs. Preston with its Harry Cohen Leadership Award. Preston's individual ordeal began, in That Lvov's was Jewish when the ghetto Nazis inbegan to "liquidate" the ghetto, systematically slaughtering its residents. Eleven of the 20 Jews died in the filthy hideout. Mrs. Preston said in a recent interview that she and the other Jews vowed at the time that if they survived, they would never forget either of their Christian benefactors. In November 1981, 40 years later, Mrs. Preston kept that promise.
