POCATELLO, IDAHO, FRIDAY, MAY 21, 1976 IDAHO STATE JOURNAL-SECTION A-HAbt 5 Bicycle 'Holiday' on Saturday Needs Students and Parents Each oarticioant should bring a brown prizes including safety flags and horns Parents and students with bicycles are invited to participate in a bicycle holiday Saturday sponsored by the Bannock County Extension Office and the city's Parks and Recreation Department. A full day of activities is planned, according to Wanda Austin, director of TKe event. will attempt to correct" bad cycling habits and create a new respect for bikers. There will be a discussion of such practices as riding on the wrong side of the street, improper sizejnke for size of rider, EaBIyTidjusted brakes, correct method for crossing roads or intersections, and use of proper hand signals. Participants will leave Hawthorne and Alameda parks at 9 a.m.

and Raymond Park at 10 a.m.. with the destination for all bikers Caldwell Park. All bikers should be there no later than 11 a.m. Saturday. All biking tours will be accompanied by a special police escort and followed by a "sag" wagon tor those children who get tired.

Each group will be led by a road captain, who can be recognized by an orange arm band. All bikers will be given a piece of orange survey tape to be placed on their bikes. Each participant should bring a brown paper bag lunch. Cyclists will leave from Caldwell Park (or Uoss Park, where events will be held. Copies of a map designating the proper bike route to Ross Park and checkpoint stations will be provided at that time.

To qualify for prizes at the end of the Jay. all participants must stop at each checkpoint where road captains will attach survey tape to the bicycles. There is no fee for participating in the events. Riders should complete their trip to Uoss Park by noon. All riders will be led by a police escort to the park.

During the lunch hour at Ross Park, there will be demonstrations of how to change a bike tire and bike safety procedures. At 12:30 p.m., children's activities will begin and will include a Paul Revere race for the fastest rider, a snail race for the slowest, and five different areas of skill competition aimed at all age levels. Winners will be given Horse Club Meet An organizational meeting for a new 4-H horse club will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the John Powell stable. Bannock Highway (next to Indian Hills School).

Memberships will be open to boys and girls ages 9-19, and ownership of a horse is not necessary. A self-determined horse judging project will be open in addition to the regular 4- horse project. Awards will also be given to the youngest and oldest riders. While the children are occupied, Tom Amberson of the parks and recreation department will give parents a short talk on road touring and safety and then will ieaii them on a bike tour to Inkom at i p.m.. The adult group will proceed to Indian Hills Elementary School and head toward Inkom via Portneuf Road. Riders will return to Koss Park via the old Bannock Highway by 3:30 p.m. and parents and children will reuirn home together.
