Donaway CLAYTON James Stewart Donaway, 81, of 106 N. Rodney died Saturday at his home after a long illness. Mr. Donaway retired in 1970 after 12 years as senior clerk in the engineering division of the state Division of Highways. He was an honorary life member of the Clayton Fire Company.

CLEARWATER, Fla. Lewis R. Banks 62, of 2165 Gulf-to-Bay Clearwater, formerly of Wilmington, died Saturday after an apparent heart attack. He retired in 1976 after 36 years with the Du Pont Experimental Station. He is survived by his wife, Blanche Holdsworth Banks; a daghter, Barbara Dawson of Newark; two sisters, Mary J.

Knight of Clearwater and Elizabeth M. Blakely of Wilmington, and a grandchild. Services and burial will be in Clearwater. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, Independence Mall, Wilmington, Del. 19803.

Nellie E. Carey Nellie E. Carey, 64, of 204 East Milford, formerly of Newark, died Friday in Milford Hospital after a long illness. She is survived by her husband, Motive sought for spree in which Del. youth died COLUMBIA, S.C.

(AP) Police were still seeking a motive yesterday in the shooting spree at the University of South Carolina which wounded five people and killed two, one of them Patrick McGinty of Wilmington, Del. Mark A. Houston, 19, of Columbia was charged in the shootings, which broke out about 12:15 a.m. Saturday at a fraternity homecoming party. Houston will be arraigned today on two counts of murder and five counts of assault and battery with intent to kill, authorities said.

He was being held in the Columbia City jail. Police say Houston, described as a quiet and friendly student, pulled a gun sprayed bullets into a crowded recreation room at Bates West a high-rise dormitory on the outskirts of the South Carolina campus. About 100 young people in the room were attending a Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity homecoming party. The dead students were identified as Terrell Johnson, 21, of St. Matthews, S.C., and McGinty, 18, a graduate of Salesianum School in Wilmington.

McGinty, of Lancaster Village, was a basketball player at Salesianum last year and was on an academic scholarship at the university. Johnson was at the party when he was shot and killed. Four others at the affair were wounded. McGinty died of chest wounds after he and a fifth student were gunned down on a sidewalk outside of the dormitory. Houston was arrested about three hours later in a dormitory at Allen University, located across town from the University of South Carolina.

He was persuaded to surrender by his parents, who accompanied police to the building and walked out with their son. A pistol was recovered at the time of the William. L. Carey; four sons, William F. of Marshallton, Richard G.

of Newark, Robert H. and Joseph both at home; a daughter, Jeannette C. Masche of Newark; a brother, William Dannell of Newark, and five grandchildren. Services will be tomorrow afternoon at 2 at the Robert T. Jones and Sons Funeral Home, 122 W.

Mr. Phillips was a retired farmer. He is survived by his son, Charles R. Phillips of Delmar, three daughters, Edna McKelvey and Jean Fields, both of Delmar, and Hazel Scarborough of Parsonsburg, two brothers, Herman Phillips of Laurel and Glennal of Wilmington; a sister, Myra Taylor of Seaford; 15 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Springhill Memory Gardens, Salisbury. William P. Clifton LEWES William P. Clifton, 78, of 414 Pilot Town Road, Lewes, died Saturday in Beebe Hospital after a short illness. He retired in 1972, after 25 years as owner of the Clifton Newsstand.

He had worked for the Sussex Trust Co. for 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Estella B. Clifton, and two brothers, Frederick G. Jr.

of Lewes and B. Fill-. more of Bridgeville. Services will be tomorrow afternoon at 2 at Atkins Funeral Home, 119 W. Fourth Lewes, where friends may call tonight.

Burial will be in Bethel Methodist Cemetery. William A. Pride MILFORD William A. Pride, 83, of near Milton, died Saturday in Milford Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Mr.

Pride was a retired farmer. His wife, Lillian H. died in 1960. He is survived by a son, James W. of Milton; a stepson, Howard Blizzard of Easton, two stepdaughters, Helen Brooks of Clayton and Edna Blizzard of Milton; a brother, Samuel of Milton; a sister, Margaret Pride of Milton; 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

John J. Moore John J. Moore, 53, of 1005 Mistover Lane, Newark, died Friday in the Delaware Division after a long illness. He was an auditor for the State of Delaware Tax Department. He is survived by his wife, Teresa M.

Holloway Terrace, Goodwill of New High school student dies in bridge mishap Robert Edward Sylvester, 18, of 1903 Woodbrook Drive, Westwood Manor, was killed yesterday morning when he tried to flag down a truck on the westbound span of the Delaware Memorial Bridge and the truck hit him. Ed Golin, spokesman for the bridge police, said that about 12:50 a.m., the young man was walking up the New Jersey approach to the bridge near the U.S. 130 interchange, and tried to stop a truck driven by Julian W. McGinnis, 41, of Chester, Va.

McGinnis told police he didn't see the man in time and ran him down with the truck. Mr. Sylvester was taken to Salem (N.J.) Memorial Hospital where he was dead on arrival. Golin said police were still investigating the accident. Mr.

Sylvester was a senior at Mount Pleasant High School, where he was president of the student council. He worked part-time as a clerk at Bamberger's in the Christiana Mall. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Sarah L. and Leon S. Scott, with whom he lived; his father and stepmother, Norman and Janis Sylvester of Oceanport, N.J.; two brothers, Steven with the U.S.

Navy at Great Lakes, and Kenneth at home; a sister, Lauren A. Sylvester, at home; three stepbroth ers, Robert I. Scott of Clarion, David L. Scott, a student at the University of Delaware, and James R. Scott of Austin, Texas: a stepsister, Hope J.

Scott of Happy, Texas, and his maternal grandmother, Sarah Wood of Baltimore, Md. Services will be tomorrow morning at 11 at the Chandler Funeral Home, 1506 Concord Pike, Sharpley, where friends may call tonight. Burial will be in Silverbrook Memorial Park. Westwood Manor man dies in crash Thomas A. Joyce, 77, of 1900 Fairfield Drive, Westwood Manor, died Saturday night in the Delaware Division after an automobile accident, according to the state police.

Mr. Joyce turned left from Veale Road onto Fairfield Road, and his car collided with a a car driven by Paul Cafula, 25, of Carriage Run Apartments about 8 p.m., police said. Cafula and a passenger in his car, Patricia Beatson, 25, of 601 Harvey Road, were treated for minor injuries at the Delaware Division and released. Mr. Joyce died at the same hospital an hour and 45 minutes after the accident.

Mr. Joyce retired in 1967 from the Du Pont Co. at Louviers after 33 years in the engineering department as a chief expediter. He is survived by his wife, Mildred A. of Westwood Manor; a son, Robert T.

of Longwood, a daughter, Carolyn J. Freed of North Hills, a brother, Martin X. of Wayne, a sister, Sister Cordella of Aston, and four grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday morning at 10 at St. Helena's Catholic Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont.
