'Luke Duke' Continued from Dl Ten days later, the filming began. "I think we all recognized that this had a chance to be a big commercial success," he said. "No one realized it would be this kind of monster hit, though." The big money will come later.

In the meantime, Wopat has a house in Los Angeles and an assortment of motorcycles. He likes to ride horses and cycles, play sandlot softball and visit his five, far-flung brothers. Ambitions? Well, Wopat wants to make movies and to direct a "Dukes" episode. But mostly, there's his music. Wopat has been working on country-rock crossover songs.

"We've got four tracks down so far, and we've been taking them around to the record companies. We haven't had much interest so far." In the meantime, his "Carousel" stop displayed the kind of musical talent no one would expect from Luke Duke. And Wopat insisted the role was a fine way to spend the vacation. "It's the total immersion in theater. I think of it as sort of a purifying process." That's when he remembered that he hadn't eaten breakfast yet.

(It was roughly 4 p.m.) He pulled on a T-shirt, hopped onto his motorcycle and headed to the Barn's favorite tavern. Tom Wopat was still happily reliving his good old days.
