EASTON, Md. Charles H. Wieland 85, of 503 Pleasant Place died Tuesday in Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Wieland owned and operated Peoples Ice Co.

in Easton for many years until his retirement in the early 1940s. He later worked as a volunteer at Eastern Shore Hospital Center in Cambridge and farm manager and taught agriculture at Konnarock Boys School in Konnarock, for the Lutheran Church of America. He was a past commander of Talbot Post 70, American Legion, and a former councilman of Grace Lutheran Church in Easton. He is survived by his wife, J. Elizabeth Bourne Wieland; three sons, Charles H.

Wieland III of Easton, Roger Wieland of Gainesville, Fla. and Jack B. Wieland of Port Richey, three daughters, Betty Jane Corkran of Dover, Kathryn W. Price of Birmingham, and Virginia W. Kerr of Milford, a sister, Grace W.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to a church or charity. Edith B. Jump MILFORD Edith B. Jump, died Tuesday at her residence, Milford Manor convalescent home, after a long illness. Mrs.

Jump was the first deaf student to attend Wilmington High School, according to her sister, Helen B. McWhorter of Wilmington. She attended Wilmington High School for two years, graduated with honors, and was awarded a trip to Washington. She then became a private instructor for seven years at the Mt. Airy, School for the Deaf and Blind, which she had attended herself.

She later became a clerk for the Milford Trust retiring 21 years ago. Her husband, Herbert died in 1961. In addition to Mrs. McWhorter, she is survived by a son, Herbert C. Jr.

of Milford; a daughter, Bernice J. Wilkins of Milford; a sister, Ada B. Orth of Earleville, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Services will be Thursday afternoon at 2 in Christ Episcopal Church, Church Avenue, Milford. There will be no viewing.

Joyce MILFORD Arthur L. Joyce, 69, of Woodmere Drive, Milford, died Monday in Kent General Hospital, Dover, after a short illness.

Mr. Joyce retired in 1976 as a department superintendent with Carpenter Technologies of Bridgeport, after 19 years. He is survived by his wife, Helen a son, M. Michael Joyce of Newark, and a granddaughter. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday morning at 11:30 at St.

Verda Braemer Lewis Verda Braemer Lewis, 61, of 603 Clearview Holly Oak Terrace, died Monday in Emory University Hospital in Atlanta after a short illness. Mrs. Lewis was retired about five years ago as a librarian in the Mt. Pleasant School District. She is survived by her husband, Edward F.

Lewis; a daughter, Verda Jay Wightman of Atlanta; two sons, Edward F. Lewis II of Wilmington and James D. Lewis of Wilmington; a sister, Iva Hutchison of Glasgow, and four grandchildren. Memorial services will be Monday night at 7 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 501 Ducnan Road.

Barbara Weiner Graveside services for Barbara Weiner, 33, of Atlanta, were held Sunday in Wilmington. Ms. Weiner was formerly of Wilmington, but she had established a law practice in Atlanta. Ms.

Weiner died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Atlanta police said. They said she was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta about 7:30 Saturday morning and was pronounced dead about three hours later. Immediate survivors include her parents, Toby and Eugene Weiner, and two brothers, Wayne and Jeffrey, all of Wilmington. Ogle D. Nelson MT.

PLEASANT Ogle D. Nelson, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday in the Wilmington Medical Center Delaware Division after a long illness. Mr. Nelson retired in 1961 as a mill operator at Agway Inc.

in Middletown after 10 years. Before he went to work there, he had been a self-employed farmer. He is survived by his wife, Mary P. Nelson; a son, Francis Nelson of Clayton; a daughter, Betty Ginn of Middletown; two brothers, Howard Smyrna and J. Arthur Thorne GREENWOOD Arthur Thorne, 66, of near Greenwood, died Tuesday in Milford Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Thorne was self-employed as a harness racing driver, trainer and owner for 30 years. He was owner of Penney Creek Farms near Greenwood.

He is survived by his wife, Marian; a daughter, Elizabeth Kenn of Harrington; two brothers, Samuel Thorne of New York City and Ward Thorne of Rock Hall, a sister, Emmaline Brawley of Winston-Salem, N.C., and a grandchild. Services and burial will be private. James Albert Millman James Albert Millman, 36, of 58 Prangs Lane, Rambleton died Tuesday in the Delaware Division after a short illness. Mr. Millman was a materiels handler for DelTech Engineering Inc.

Avery H. Goddin, former Newark councilman, dies Avery H. Goddin, former Newark city councilman and chairman of the Newark Housing Authority from 1966 to 1969, died Monday at his home after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. Goddin, of 109 Briar Lane, was 72.

Mr. Goddin was a city councilman in Newark from 1956 to 1958. He was elected chairman of the housing authority by vote of the authority commissioners in 1963, a year after the agency's founding, and served in that capacity until 1969. During his tenure, he advocated the building of public housing in Newark, and oversaw the construction of 78 public housing units. He retired in 1974 as a research biologist for the Du Pont Co.

Sharp, received a patent on an improved chemical protectorant against insects for stored grains, tobacco Ralph Frank DiOrio Ralph Frank DiOrio, 51, of 2605 Garfield Brandywine Estate, died Monday afternoon while working out in the exercise room of the New Castle County police headquarters. Mr. DiOrio, who had recently become crossing guard supervisor for the county Department of Public Safety, was using some of the exercise equipment, according to police, when he apparently was stricken by a heart attack and died.

He had worked for the county since 1978, first as a dispatcher for the county police, then as supervisor of county security guards, before he assumed his most recent post. He retired in 1977 as a battalion chief in the Wilmington Bureau of Fire after 25 years. He is survived by his wife, Norma B. DiOrio; his parents, Frank John and Pearl DiOrio of Brack-Ex; two daughters, Colleen DiOrio of Colonial Heights and Vicki L. DiOrio, at home; three stepsons, Chuck Dawson of Claymont, Gary Dawson at home, and Robert DiOrio at home, and two brothers, J.

Milton L. O'Neal PUNTA GORDA, Fla. Milton L. O'Neal, 69, of 122 Lake Drive. Laurel, died Monday in Punta Gorda Medical Center after suffering a massive heart attack Dec.

9. He was staying at his winter home in Windmill Village, Punta Gorda. )Mr. O'Neal was president of O'Neal Brothers a building contracting firm in Laurel, until he retired in 1976 after 50 years with the company. He is survived by his wife, Alice Insley O'Neal; two daughters, Janet Renninger of West Chester, and Carol Hammond of Wilmington, a brother, Linwood T.

and a sister, Louis O. Conway, both of Melbourne Beach, and two grandchildren. Services will be Saturday afternoon at 2 at the Centenary United Methodist Church, Market Street, Laurel, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
