This year is one of his worst along that line. They have been on him all over his leagues, some demanding that he be removed. He has them nettled right now because he held an executive meeting of the East Texas League and wouldn't let them in to hear the fireworks on changing the ownership of a franchise. He also made them pay their way into the park to report the league all-star game. Commenting cn a fan letter criticizing his umpires, he said: "So they think my umpires are tough.

They should have seen them back when I was player. You couldn't even give them a look over a decision. I recall Doak Roberts, part owner, of the Houston club, once asking Bill Matthews If he hadn't been a little hasty in putting cut three Houston players. Matthews replied: You think I was hasty todav: come out tomorrow and I'll have them sliding into the club house'." Morris has been in professional baseball as player, manager, club owner, league president, scout and promotional director for 45 years. He has organized 14 leagues and been president of seven.

And he has built nine ball parks. He has made and lost a half-million dollars in baseball. He sent such players as Dickie Kerr and Rube Robinson to the majors and gave Rogers Horns-by his start. He has seen 4.500 ball games. Morris once wa.s president of three leagues at one time and during that period had five expense accounts.

In addition to heading the Evangeline, East Texas and Cotton States Leagues he was promotional director for the National Association and worked for a brewery. He recalls when he charged all five for a ticket to a Rotary Club luncheon, telling them he didn't want to slight anybody. He had received a complimentary ticket in the first place. and came Under the Wire to Win by! half a length, pacing the final quar ter in 30 seconds to register a time of 2.05 for, the mile. Because of the large number of entries 'or 2.25 pace, the race officials divided it into two divisions and limited each division to a single heat of one mile with two of the Myer brothers winning the events.

In the first division Ellis Myer, driving Nancy Sue, owned by James Roobins, Port Norris. N. remained deep in the field for most of the distance and made his move as he approached the three-quarter pole, passing Foxy Blackstone.j driven by Earl Kelly, the leader! from the start, and came under the wire two lengths in front. Ed Myer, driving Earl's Rebel, won the second division by pacing to the front at the first turn and remained there throughout the mile to win by three lengths. His Excellency, owned and driven by E.

F. (Polly) Sipe, trotted solidly throughout the mile to win both heats of the two-year-old trot. The winner was kept steady by Sipe and never was out of the iead at any time. J. Oscar Hunt, Swedesboro, N.

Walter Morris, who has organized mc uauuuai jeduer. cut 01 ine 'penalties meted out, none ever was quite so sensational as that one he plastered on a police chief. Morris, president of the Big State and East Texas League, didn't collect from the but he got the money nevertheless when Police Chief W. M. McDonnold of Temple stopped payment on a $10 check, Morris just collected frcm the local ball club.

McDonnold was "fined" by Morris when Umpire Nels Pearson reported he was shoved by the chief of police. The chief 6aid he was just trying to protect Pearson from angry fans. It is Morris pronouncements when he levies a fine that makes it news. For instance, he announced one day that he was sticking three players and a manager for "using derogatory and uncomplimentary expletives which in plain English means cussing the umpires." When he fined Bill Sinton of Texarkana $25 for trying to pick a row with the umpire he suggested that Sinton "join the Army or Navy if he wants to fight." Morris checked up today and found he had meted out 11 fines in 2itne Bi State League and 12 in the East Texas and commented that it was only a fair year. "Why, in 1946.

I fined 25 guys in just one league the Evangeline." That was the year he had five players banned from baseball in a gambling scandal. Morris once fined himself and paid off. He had soaked four fellows $25 apiece. But, after doing it, he decided he hadn't made, the penalties stif- enough. "I should have fined them $100 and suspended them," he roared.

"For neglect of duty I hereby fine myself $25." He Saratoga Results (AT JAMAICA 'Br Associated Press) FIRST RACE Purse $3,500. claiming. 4-year-olds and up. 6 furlongs (Oft Waym ark. 114 (Gorman) $5.90 $3.20 $2.50 Fatal Error.

Southside jumped off to a fast start by scoring seven runs in the first inning off Roy Hogentogler and Johnny Fritz, who replaced him in the first and pitched the rest of the game. Southside made it 9-2 after two innings. Kolly Oak tried to make a strong comeback in the last of the fifth but fell two runs short of tying the score. Although Stan King went the route for Southside, he was touched for eight hits, the same number that Southside collected. Walt Harwanko and Carleton Straughn each got two hits for the winners, while Johnny Bull and Fritz also paced Holly Oak with two hits apiece.
