1942 FRIENDS TRIP TOWER HILL VOCATIONAL, WILMINGTON WIN FOURTEEN Cager Up High CLAYMONT RALLY DEFEATS CONRAD Brown Gains 42-23 Victory Over Boothwyn; High Defeats Regional Quakers Hand Rivals First Defeat, 53 to 29, Keep Own Slate Clean Dick Morrow, Danny Dallett Lead For Penn's Grove Quint Bows by 27-21 Score On Locals1 Court AM II j. lr lawaMsW'V WaaajamaaiaawMl Borecki, Janulewicz, Szostkoivski Feature Ninth Straight Win Special to The Morning News BOOTHWYN, Jan. 30 Dropping in field goals from every point on the floor to outscore the home club 18-10 from scrimmage, the undefeated Brown Vocational five of Wilmington handed Boothwyn High a 42 to 23 defeat in their basketball game here tonight for its ninth straight triumph. Taking a 6-4 lead at end of the opening period the Wilmington team's offensive gained momentum as the game progressed and at the end of the first hall Brown waa in front, 17-13. With Joe Borecki, Nick Szostkow-ski and Gabe Janulewicz doing the fancy scoring the visitors moved out to a 29-16 edge at the three-quarter mark and then sewed up the contest with 13 points in the final chapter.

Borecki carried off game scoring honors with 11 points, followed closely by Szosthowski with 10 and Janulewicz with nine. Bob Snyder paced the Boothwyn passers with nine. In the preliminary. Vocational High's. Jay Vees handed the Boothwyn Junior Varsity an 18 to 6 defeat.

Respective Fives Wilmington Friends School's basketball forces tossed the undefeated record of Tower Hill into the discard last night on the home floor by scoring a 53 to 29 victory and at the same time ran its own unbeaten streak to six in succession. It was the first of the annual two-game series between the private school rivals and was witnessed by a crowd that jammed the Quaker gymnasium to capacity. Morrow Scoring Ace The Quakers shot to the front at the very start of the game and experienced little difficulty increasing the margin. Dick Morrow was the main cog in the Friends School attack.

He counted 12 times' from action and tossed in three fouls for good measure to carry off individual scoring honors with 27 points. Danny Dallett accounted for almost half of Tower Hill's total with five field goals and four fouls for 14 points. The Quakers outscored the invaders 22-13 in the opening half and 31-16 in the two final periods. Friends' Jay Vees tripped Tower Hill Jay Vees, 33 to 18. in the prelim, while in games played in the afternoon Tower Hill thirds topped Friends' Ninth Grade, 24 to 22, and the Midgets trounced Tower Midgets, 35 to 6.

Wilmington High School's basketball forces notched their second victory of the season yesterday afternoon on the home court, tripping Regional High of Penn's Grove. N. 27 to 21. The only other triumph recorded by the Red Devils in 10 starts this year was at the expense of Conrad School. After trailing 6-4 at the end of the first period, the Cherry and White outscored the invaders 12-6 in the second quarter to assume a 16-12 half-time advantage, a lead they held to the finish.

The New Jersey passers came within a point of the leaders during the third period, but Wilmington pulled away to its six-point advantage by topping the Invaders 6-1 in the final session. Henry Ma Olszewski again paced the Wilmington attack by scoring five times from action for a 10-point total. Cunningham of Wilmington was the second high scorer with six. Coombs and Peak were best for the Regional quintet with flvt points each. In the preliminary contest Wilmington High's Jay Vees downed Regional Jay Vees by the score of 17 to 10.

Jan. 30 Battling its way from behind in the fading moments. Claymont High's basketball team knotted the score against Conrad High and then went on to victory in an extra period, 28 to 27. Phil Nefl. held without a field goal in the early stages of the encounter, first knotted the count at 23-23 with a long shot, and after Dick Mettenet once more put the Redskins ahead, Neff again entered the picture to deadlock the score with another action goal at 25-25 just before the final whistle.

Claymont took a temporary lead in the overtime period on Marv Vernon's foul, but Bachman tallied a field goal for Conrad and It remained for Eddie Anderson to clinch the victory for the local passers by dropping a goal from near the center of the court. Lou Minutola of Claymont and Mettenet deadlocked for individual scoring honors with 10 points each. In the prelim Walt Taylor's Claymont Jay Vees downed Conrad Jay Vees by the score of 27 to 22. Philadelphia. The game will start at 9:15 o'clock. The Bombers will not only be striving for their initial win of the final half, but also hope to maintain their supremacy over the Philadelphia contingent. During the first half Wilmington conquered the Sphas in all four of their meetings.

30 Newark High's Yellowjackets suffered a 28 to 19 defeat on the home court tonight at the expense of Smyrna High. Bob Jacobs, Smyrna forward, led his team's attack by scoring six times from scrimmage and once at the foul line for a 13-point total. Smyrna grabbed the lead In the opening minute of the contest and remained in front thereafter. Smyrna led 6-2 at the conclusion of the first period and outscored the local club 10-5 in the second to lead 16-7 at half-time. Newark strengthened its defenses In the third period, yielding only two points while adding four to Its own total, but Smyrna regained the upper hand in the final session by topping the Jackets 10-8.

Totall 14 6 34 Stan Stuka of Blue Rocks Reported in Armed Forces Plans of the Wilmington Blue Rocks for the 1942 baseball campaign received a jolt when it was learned yesterday from an unofficial source that Catcher Stan Stuka has joined the Army. News of Stuka 's move was received here In a letter from Mickey Figun, manager of St. Nicholas' basketball team who was re-inducted at Baltimore this week. Figun reported that Stuka was a member of the same group.

Apparently officials of the Blue Rocks were not informed of Stuka's contemplated move. Parish League Standing the Teams OVER SALESIANS Business School Five Takes Lead Before Final Gun To Pull Out 25-24 Victory Coach Johnny Naylor's Beacom College basketball team gained the lead only once in its contest with Salesianum School last night on the Sallies" court, but it was Just before the final gun and the business school quintet emerged with a 25 to 24 victory. Pete Bunitsky's field goal in the final 20 seconds, with his team trail ing 24-23, proved the pay-oft shot. Salesianum, victorious In Its first encounter with Beacom this season, bolted to the front right at the start of the contest and held a 5-3 advantage at the conclusion of the first period. The Sallies outscored the invaders 9-8 in the second frame to shove the lead up to 14-11, and gained a 22-14 advantage during the third quarter.

But Beacom came strong in the final session, topping the Sals 11-2 to finally creep ahead. Both clubs tallied 10 times from action, but Beacom gained a 5-4 edge at the penalty stripe. Joe Hanley and Joe Nero paced the Beacom attack by scoring seven points each, but individual honors were taken by Jackie Welsh of the Sallies who garnered 12 points. BEACOM SALESIANUM G. F.

Camilli to Visit MacPhail To Discuss 1942 Contract SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 30 (JPh Brooklyn's No. 1 baseball player, husky Dolph Camilli, is going to pack his 1942 contract difficulties, if any, right into the lion's den. He plans to report to the Dodgers front ofBce and head man Larry MacPhail in person Feb.

16 for a conference. Camilli, riding herd on his ranch in Northern California, near Laytonville, was slightly on the non-commital side during a telephone conversation today. From his remarks, however, it was plain he thought he rated a salary boost in view of last year's outstanding season that saw him named the most valuable player in the National League. For reasons unknown to Camilli, the club did not mail him a new contract. Instead, he received a letter from MacPhail inviting him to Brooklyn to, discuss terms.

Camilli mulled over the idea a few days before writing he would accept the invitation. Bill Jankowski Captures Decathlon at Bancroft Bill Jankowski captured top honors In the semi-annual Bancroft School decathlon with a total of 11.150 points. It was the second highest score ever recorded in the event. Jankowski averaged better than 1.100 points per event. Second honors were taken by Joe Corridori who amassed 10.950 points, while Bill Sylvester was third with 9,900.

Letters were awarded the first 10 in the decathlon during a physical education department assembly this week. Medals were given the winner and runner-up. R. C. Coffey Wins Doubles, Handicap in Trapshoot ETJSTIS, Jan.

30 (U.R1 R. C. Coffey. Orlando, broke 80 out of 100 targets today to win the registered doubles event of the Winter Vandalia. Ike Andrews, Spartanburg, S.

veteran of many trapshoots, was second with 75 targets and A. F. Nelson. Detroit, took third place with 71. Coffey also won the registered handicap, breaking 91 out of 100 targets from the 21-yard line.

30 (IP) A constant two-handed attack to the body here tonight won Leo Dul-maine, 138, Worcester, a unanimous 10 round decision over Frankie Velee, 138, New York. battle. The teams finished the first half race deadlocked when the Leathermen won in the final game of the schedule to tie DuPont which had set the pace practically throughout. Both have a number of outstanding players in their lineups and the battle looms as a toss-up. Although listed first on the three-game card, the meeting between Bancroft, currently setting the second half pace with two wins in as many starts, and Pusey and Jones, a newcomer to the circuit, shapes up as another feature.
