Two Others Arrested in Film Homes Thefts; One Robbed 'To Aid Communist Party' BEVERLY HILLS, Calif, Dec 14 (INS) Arrested as a suspect in a "society burglary ring" which had victimized scores of film stars and society folk, Arthur Kent. 38. declared today that he "robbed the rich to help the Communist Party," police stated. Kent's wife.

Harriet Kent. 36, reputed former socialite of San Fran-Cisco, and Thomas S. Johnjon, 42. business and circulation manager of the official newspaper of the Committee for Industrial Organization in Southern California, were arrested with him. The two men were booked on suspicion of burglary.

Mrs. Kent ws held on charges of suspicion of receiving stolen property. Detective Lieut. B. G.

Anderson declared Kent had been linked with thirteen recent burglaries of fashionable homes in Beverly Hills in which Jewels, furs and other valuables worth $10,000 were stolen. Following the arrest of the Kent at OJai, Detective Lieut. A. J. Geb-hardt recovered jewels and furs valued at (2,000 on a ranch near Santa Barbara, where the pair were said to have lived.

Johnson, implicated by Kent and arrested at a downtown Los Angeles hotel, denied any connection with the burglaries. According to Detective Anderson. Kent confessed that it was part of the plan of the Communist Party to rob the rich, including film stars and socialites, and to use the proceeds to carry on the party's work. According to Lieut. Anderson.

Kent claimed to be chairman of the professional peoples' membership committee of the Communist Party in Los Angeles, and told him that (he remainder of the profits from his burglaries, estimated at $8,300, bad been turned over to the pany. OXeary said that Thayer, a 1936 graduate of Boston University, suddenly walked upstairs to his bedroom where he kept his guns and returned to the living room where he shot his aunt as she sat in front of an open Are. The noise of the shot apparently attracted Thayer's sister, a former teacher In the Hannah Moore School for Girls in RicersvUle. Md OXeary said. As she walked from the dining room, where only a short time before the family had dined, she met her brother. OXeary said, and Thayer shot her once with the shotgun, which he had reloaded, and then again with one of two pistols.

Sanborn, called state police. OXeary said Thayer, known as a "model" young man. well liked in the neighborhood, willingly accompanied troopers to their barracks. Apparently undismayed. Thayer acted "as if he was going to a party." OXeary said.

Thayer studied for a year at Lowell Textile Institute before he entered Boston University, where ho studied Journalism. Recently he worked on a Cambridge weekly paper. His father. Oliver T. Thayer.

Is His sister, a graduate of Smith College, attended Simmons College. FIERY CROSS, LETTERS, WARN PEACE ADVOCATE MONTCLAIR, N. Dec 14 UFt Dr. Leon H. Fradkin disclosed today that a cross which burned last night in the driveway of his home followed receipt of several threatening letters by bis wife.

Elvira, prominent club woman and leader in peace movements. The four-foot wooden cross, which was found by Patrolman Joseph Gannon, was built expertly. Police Chief Thomas Claren said. The cross-pieces were hinged so that they could be folded to fit in a car, and the upright was set in a base of concrete. Dr.
