Mr. Carl reports an increase in all livestock on farms in the United States of slightly less than one-half of 1 per cent. also said the aggregate value of all livestock in the United States increased approximately $71,509,000 during the past year. Decrease in Cattle Cattle-- Both the dairy and the beef situation appears responsible for a general decrease of about 5 per cent in numbers of all cattle in Iowa.

The decline is general in the corn belt states. Numbers of all cattle in Iowa decreased from 4,241,000 head in January, 1926, to 4,029,000 in January, 1927. Nebraska had a decrease of 10 per cent and Kansas 8 per cent. Milk Cows-- Numbers decreased from 1,341,000 head in January, 1926, to 1,134,000 head in Janu ary, 1927. An expansion of the industry beginning before 1920 was apparently checked in 1923 and the milk cow population remained about level until tho decrease was shown in 1S26, The 9.530.000 bead.

Some producers expect to see a slight decline in market prices in the late spring months. The December pig survey Indicates only a small Increase in the breeding of sows in the corn belt for spring of 1927 iarrowing, although increased breeding of sows, above expectations fer Iowa, seem to have taken place in December and January. It seems quite certain that those who may expect the present price level of hogs to continue throughout 1928 may be disappointed unless production is held down to the level of the past two years. ture contracts.
