Nearly 100 Jurors had been summoned for the trial and a large crowd of spectators waa present. The murder was one of the most sensational in the history of Vermont. Uoth Mies Brewster and Miss Wheeler were in love with Jack Wheeler, who was engaged to the girl bearing the same surname, but who was no relative of bis. Wheeler had planned to take his affianced to a Dec-oration day oelebra- lion. This aroused Miss Brewster, who called upon her rival on the morning of the intended festivity and later btarled her to the place where ahe was to Wheeler.

As they passed a secluded spot Miss Brewster drew a revolver from her pocket and shot Miss Wheeler through, the head. She then fired a bullet into her own brain. Miss Wheeler died before the day was over. For -weeks Miss Brewster lingered between life and death, and the bullet with which she tried to end her own life was not removed until January last. Since that time Miss Brewster has gained rapidly in health and strength.

LONDON, April has been semi- officially announced that Great Britain has made arrangements with China to take over the port of Wel-hai-wei, on the Bhang-tung peninsula, when the Chinese government has paid the war indemnity due to Japan and the Japanese have evacuated the place.
