TO WEAR Variety to Wardrobe By DICK KLEINER NEW YORK. (NEA)-Time was! mm called, "Dear, would yoii' bring down my sweater, please?" "Dear" had no problems. She brought down his sweater. But now she has to ask, "Which one?" That is because the variety of sweater's in a man's wardrobe has been increasing more rapidlly thtn any other single item. Comparing figures is always a risky but the wool sweater people claim sweater sales increased 89 per cent in the five-year period ending 1958.

No matter how you juggle the figures, they still look impressive. But you really don't have to get statistical to see the point. Look around. Where the man of the house historically owned one sweater" (generally a cardigan, replaced only when the elbows went) today most men have three or four. There ire several reasons for this change.

First, sweater manufacturers are knitting more interesting styles. Secondjjnen have found sweaters to be more versatile than they formerly supposed. And, third, advances in fibers have made sweaters more practical, easier to maintain. The wool sweater, of course, still leads the parade. But the'syn- thetics are selling well, too.

Manufacturers of synthetics, are continuing to turn out a bigger variety of styles. The sleeveless sweater, for example, is a tremendously useful article of clothing. Many of the models are handsome enough to be worn as part of the everyday business wardrobe. Yet they can double as sports attire. And, for sports such as golfing or skiing, the "give" of a wool sweater makes life pleasant for an active man.

Here, again, styles have advanced so far that the sweater you wear on the golf links is often attractive enough to wear for certain social occasions. Thus, a new hobby is being born. Men are collecting sweaters. Still on the subject of knitted Sweater vest is getting added touches of richness including white cable decorations. EXPERIENCED LEATHER WANTED APPLY AT LAMBERT MFG.

CO. PLANT NO. 3 North Washington Street wool, the word from the beaches of California is that knitted swimming trunks are The Thing. And look for a big invasion of the rest of the nation come swimming time this summer. I There is a good, logical reason i for knit-ted wool trunks.

They dry i quickly after you get back on the beach, and the moisture doesn't linger--hence, an end to that damp, clammy feeling. i In California, such trunks in i foulard patterns and wide stripes' are the big sellers." Some solids, I too, of course, but the gay foulards and stripes are the attention- getters. Shades of gold--from a light, straw-like tone to a deep, almost olive green-gold--are what fash- ion designers foresee as the most I popular colors in the next few! years. The National Association of! Men's Sportswear Buyers, in fact, i is optimistically looking forward to "The Golden '60s," figuring thej next decade will be full of golden- i hued clothes and (they hope) thej merry golden jingle of the cash 1 The Constitution-Tribune Chilllicothe. PAGF WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 6,1960 register. Already, gold is seen around, particularly in sweaters. But look for it, too, in vests, shoes, ties, socks, even sports jackets. Even if your hair has turned to silver, you'll look good in gold. There are more telephones in Chicago than there are on the entire continent of Africa.

i RESOLVED: AS OF Jan. First, 1960 OUR STORE Will Be Open from 9 a.m/til 5:30 p.m. Monday thru Sat. A A Silence is the Voice of Quality Get-'behind'the wheel of a new Cadillac car some day won--point its handsome, hood down your favorite stretch of highway--and listen! Except for the occasional lullaby of the pawing breeze, there will be literally nothing but silence to greet your ears. But, oh, how meaningful that silence is! For it speaks, with irrefutable logic, of the ingenuity Of Cadillac'design--and of the soundness of Cadillac engineering--and of the excellence and solid integrity of Cadillac craftsmanship.

And juct as silence is the voice of quality in a motor Car--so quality is the product of experience. For almost six decades, Cadillac baa devoted itself exclusively to the creation of the finest motor cars that the current automotive science would permit. So rigid, in fact, has been Cadillac's adherence to the principles of quality that the two have become virtually inseparable in the public mind. Never before, however, has this quest for perfection been as fruitful as for 1960. In its styling and design; in its construction and assembly, and in its attention to detail--it is, far and away, the finest Cadillac yet.

We suggest that you see this new 'Cadillac--and drive it--and listen to it--very soon. You'll find, we're certain, that the quiet of a Cadillac is the most eloquent sound in mdtordom.
