C. Botkin, chairman of the advertising committee of the Chautauqua association, is well pleased with the prospect for this summer's session. He said today? "Once there may have been questions as to what the Chautauqua would mean to Ventura county, but this is a thing of the past. It has stood the test, proved itself, and stands high in the estimation of the county. The church federation in its meeting at Oxnard a tew days ago unanimously dorsed the work of the past and declared itself ready to do all it could for its future success.

Individuals from all over the county declare it to be the greatest general uplifting force that the county has and a place where it is a delight to take their families and spend a few days' vacation. "The chairman of the advertising committee spent a day calling upon the business men of Ventura in his work, and found these men, who for the past four years have been in actual touch with the situation and have studied the problem from its many sides, are ready to join hands and boost, and do all they can for its success. Every one he called upon cordially welcomed him and had a good word for the Chautauqua. "That this year will be up to the standard in excellence, there is no doubt. Among the many other fine attractions the workers have secured for this year, they are pleased to announce that of the Robley Quartet, which is steadily improved until at the present time it ranks among the best male quartets of the country.

The balance is excellent, the presence is fine. The program is full of life and vivacity and the audience feels the spirit of good fellowhsip that characterizes all the programs given by the Robleys. "Their program might be called Four in One. Not only are they a quartet as we usually understand by the word, but each is an artist in more ways than one. So in addition to the usual program of quartet songs and solos, they present a Melophone quartet and a one-act sketch, "The Trials of a College Poet." This sketch was written especially for the Robley quartet by Dr.

Andrew Sledd, formerly president of the University of Florida, and is a jolly, rousing farce introducing the four members of the quartet and showing Bo's room in the dormitory of a college. "Mr. Bayard T. Robley, the manager. is a reader and impersonator of unusual ability.

Rich in humor and pathos. natural and sympathetic. To hear him read is to forget yourself and laugh and cry with him." INTERNATIONAL C. E. TO MEET NEXT MONTH The International Christian Endearor convention will meet in Los Angeles July 9.

Hundreds, and thousands are coming from every portion of the United States and Canada. as well as from other nations. Former Christian Endeavor conventions have had from 25.000 to 55,000 registered delegates, and it is expected that the Los Angeles convention will be a fair average for conventions. The speakers will all be top-notchers in their line. Among them will be Dr.

John Balcolm Shaw. D. of cago; President Henry Churchill King, LL. of Oberlin college: President Ira Landrith. LL.

of WardBelmont college: President John Willis Baer of Occidental college: Hon. J. A. McDonald. LL.

of Toronto: Rev. 1 W'm. (Billy) Sunday: Bishop Alexan-: der Walters. D. of New York: Charles M.

Sheldon. D. of Topeka, and many others. The meetings are to be held in a great tent which is to be erected in Siesta park. The tent is to be divided 1 into uno sections.

The main section will ho the auditorium. and will seat 10. pople. There is to be a great platform also. 10 accommodate the grand chorus oi 750 voices which is being trained in three sections by Prof.

1. E. Peckham of Los Angelos. -In orchestra of 75 pieces will play each evening. under the direction of William Mead.

The chorus is to sing many famous selections, such as the "Hallelujah Chorus." "innammatus." "Send Out Thy Light." "The Radiant Morn." There is to be one secular piece sung by the chorus. This is to be Silverwood's "I Love You. Cali- I fornia." Excursions are being planned by the committee in charge of affairs. and thousands of delegates will view the scenic wonders of California--the beaches, the missions. the orange groves.

the mountains, the Yosemite park, the big trees, and the hundreds! of other beauties with which California abounds. Winnipeg, St. Louis and Washington, D. are planning to come in exceedingly strong numbers, as they are all competing for the 1915 convention. Toronto has 'already chartered the trains that are to bring her 500 delegates, and the other cities are coming in like proportions.

The local committee is especially anxious that the Christian Endeavorers who are planning to come to Los Angeles from any part of California or the United States, write to the committee so that their accommodations can be secured, as the thousands of visitors who will come to southern California because of the exceedingly low rates, will grab up the good accommodations. GEN. HARMONY IN THE General Harmony is in the saddle in Ventura county. And that is the way at should be. The whole county should pull together as one.

Rivalry is all right enough in its place, but it should always be within limits. Harmony comes about at present because Ventura is going to celebrate and dedicate. Oxnard, not at all envious of Ventura's good fortune, has jumped into the spirit of the thing, and will assist all it can. The Venturans like this spirit and they in turn are more than reciprocating it. They seem to be as tickled over it as over the finding of a long-lost brother.

We are glad they do feel that way, and what is more, we hope that this feeling, so well begun, will continue. The Free Press, in speaking about. this phase of the relations between the two sections of the county, says: There has been just a bit of rivalry between this city and Oxnard for some time, and since Oxnard really grew big enough to have aspirations. This was but natural, and is something that happens right along with neighboring places and is in the nature of competition, and it is competition which wakes up men and places and business. But Oxnard has been broad enough to forget some things when the time came to forget.

Just how she has thrown off all "feeling" toward Ventura, if that is the right word, and is head over heels in an honest attempt to make her influence felt toward making the coming Fourth of July celebration here the greatest thing ever. She will be here in a body and more, she will bring everything and every penny she has with her to make a display. She will come with a shout and a hurrah. Oxnard women and children will vie with the men, women and children of other communities in the endeavor to make this the greatest celebration ever held in southern California. And right here is an illustration of the result of such friendly feeling, in the way it works out toward this section.

The Oxnard board of trade thought that this end of the county should have a county park, and has decided to look into the proposition, with a view to asking the supervisors to take some action. No sooner is the wish expressed than it is seconded by our northern friends, who seemingly will be just as anxious as we are to see this park established. At least this is the view of the Free Press: Our friends "over the river" want a county park. They should hare it. Why not? The Nordhoff section has a fine county park in Camp Comfort.

This place has a fine county park in the Foster Park. Also it has a fine recreation park here in the Seaside park. To save the great oaks at Camp Comfort the county was led 1 to purchase a tract of land there and make a county park of it. But the park at Casitas and Seaside park here are gifts to the people by E. P.

Foster and wife and cost the people of the county nothing except for the upkeep. Every. hody will admit they are worth the upkeep. But there should be county parks in all sections. The county.

flush of funds, might be inducea to buy tracts of land for the purpose. But tho hest plan would be for wealthy land owners in the several sections to donate a piece of their holdings for park purposes. No doubt the county would attend to the upkeep of such tracts if the land was donated for park purposes as was the land at Foster and Seaside parks. Let Oxnarders get busy with her big land ownoTs. She I has a lot of very wealthy ones.

Get the land donated and turn it orer to the county. No doubt the supervisors would accept the park and care for the same. Oh, yes; it is nice to have General Harmony in the saddle. Ovarier advertisers ret results.
