When Colgate opens its 76th football season against Boston University Sept. 17, the day will be designated as "Andy Kerf Day," by vote of the university's board of trustees. More permanent honor will be paid the veteran at half-time, when Colgate's football field will be officially designated as Kerr Stadium. The feature race at the Canandaigua throughbred course will be named "The Matt Jackson Handicap," and it is expected that it will attract a field of the better houses on the grounds. Matt covered the races at Canandaigua from the time the track opened in 1962 until the time of his death, but the little guy with the big heart didn't devote himself to any one sport. eighth-place Syracuse Chiefs, behind a lusty 12-hit attack that included three home runs, humiliated the seventh- place Jacksonville Suns, 10-1, as 900 Sun Valley fans howled their displeasure. It was another in a long line of terrible performances by the Suns, who obviously have resigned themselves to a no-bet- ter-ihan-seventh place finish. The one responsible for taking the Suns out of the game was catcher Greg Goossen. Lefty Gordy Richardson was summoned from the bullpen to face the left-handed hitting Art Lopez. Richardson's second strike to Lopez was an a squeeze bunt.

Tracy was caught halfway to the plate. Rather than throw the ball to the third baseman after chasing Tracy back, Goossen elected to go for the tag himself. He didn't nake it. Before the inning was over, the Chiefs had scored five runs and chased Richardson. Home runs accounted for all two of Syracuse's runs.
