Both sides insist there isn't any strike, and negotiations are continuing. Fishermen, perhaps 1000 of them who man the 100 purse seiners- fishing mackerel and sardines alternately, demand $18 a ton for their mackerel catches. Canners insist the present price of $15, which has been advanced successively from about half that figure, is all that can be paid if the product is to retail under 10 cents a can.
