Sunday School Lesson Sunday, June 11 Meeting God Through the Scriptures II Timothy Psalm By C. P. Dame Many people do not read the Bible enough and know little about its contents. It is hope that this will move many to read the Bible more faithfully than ever. Keep in mind that the Bible tells how to find salvation and how to live a Christian life pleasing to God.

I. The Bible must be taught and the best place to teach il is in the home. Timothy's mother and grandmother hac taught him in the home anc later on as a young man Pau had instructed him and so Timothy knew the Old Testament which foretold the coming oj Jesus Christ. Paul told Timothy to continue in the things which he had learned and to remember his teachers. Highly favored are children who are taught the truths of God's book in their homes by believing parents.

Today the Bible is taught in a variety of ways. II. The Bible is inspired by God and this makes it a singular book. Paul tells about the fourfold function of the Bible. It is, according to Paul "useful for teaching the faith, and correcting error, for resetting the direction of a man's life and training him in good living," (Phillips).

Everyone constantly needs this ministry. Paul said that the Bible was written "that hte man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." In these days of much education these words sound modern. The truths of the Bible, if accepted, train people for Christian service and make lives more useful. The Bible is as useful today as it was in Timothy's time. III.

The Bible gives guidance to those who seek it. Psalm 119 is composed of 176 verses and all but three refer to God's Word which is called ordinances, way judgments, precepts, statues, testimonies, law and word. The writer loved God's law and resolved to keep it. The question, "Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?" is as important today as ever, for temptations to mar the way are numerous since this is an age in which sex, drugs and pleasures of all kinds play a big role in life. The church has the task to supplement the teaching of the home with the truths of the Bible in an interesting, up-to- date manner, applying it to the life of this day.

The church needs members and leaders who are devoted to Rev. Gerrit W. Sheeres church has been without a pastor for nearly ten months. Born in The Netherlands, Rev. Sheeres came to the U.

S. in 1955. After working in Detroit, he entered Calvin College and Seminary, graduating in 1963. He served the Prosper Christian Reformed Church in Falmouth before coming to Immanuel in Grand Rapids. He is married and has four children, three boys and a girl, ages 8 to 2.
