Games of the week With the spring high school season winding down, base-. ball games between conference opponents take on added significance. Such is the case today. In Flight Concord visits Newark and Brandywine travels to Mount Pleasant in games that will help determine the conference champ.

Both start at 3:30. The same goes for the Flight encounter between Mid-dletown and host Dickinson at 3:30 and a Catholic Conference showdown between St. Elizabeth's and host Archmere at 3:45. It's a big weekend for track and field participants and their fans, too, as the New Castle County championships take place at Baynard Stadium. Preliminaries are at 3:30 p.m.

Friday at Baynard. Saturday's finals begin at 12:30 p.m. i a a r. I ham told me, Chris has an outstanding chance of being a starter this coming season," said Lou DiMascio, father of Chris DiMascio. "I think Chris has matured quite a bit and will do just fine at Fordham," added the senior DiMascio, head boys basketball coach at Delcastle Technical High School.

"Chris learned a lot about being a college player toward the end of his freshman season at St. Joseph's. "He was too frail for college ball while at St. Joseph's. He was 6-6'a but weighed only 165.

He now weighs 210 and is still putting it on." Chris DiMascio said he was recruited to be Bernard Blunt's replacement after Blunt graduated. Blunt was starting his senior season when DiMascio came in as a freshman. Blunt sustained an injury in the second game of the season, and DiMascio figured that he would replace temporarily Blunt in the starting lineup. That didn't happen. And Blunt, because of the injury, was red-shirted, which meant he would be returning for another season.

Anticipating another season of warming the bench, DiMascio switched to Fordham. A rarity as a high school player shooting guard who loved to fire rainbows from the perimeter, DiMascio played two years for his father at Caravel Academy, then completed high school at Alexis I. du Pont. In his senior year, he was used at center, averaging 27 points and 12 rebounds a game. He closed his two-school career with 1,886 points.

He was a third-team All-Stater in his sophomore and junior years and made the first-team as a senior. The News JournalFRED COMEQVS 1993 ALL-STATER: Former A.I. player Chris DiMascio first played in the Atlantic 10 with St. Joseph's University of Pennsylvania. He's now with Fordham University.

DiMascio will be getting a lot of exposure at Fordham. The Rams play some of their home games at Madison Square Garden. But the tennis coach didn't want me to play soccer," Paul said. "I also wanted to go to a larger school." All-Stater DiMascio will play in the Atlantic 10 for the second time. By MATT ZABITKA Staff reporter Chris DiMascio of Edenridge, a 1993 first-team All-State basketball player as a senior at Alexis I. du Pont High School, had his heart set on playing college hoops with a school in the Atlantic 10 conference. He realized his dream. St.

Joseph's University of Philadelphia, an Atlantic 10 member, offered him a scholarship after he had made a commitment to the Main" Line school while still a junior in high school. He played on the Hawks' varsity as a freshman in 1993-94. But the love affair wasn't long-lasting. Not satisfied with his playing time, DiMascio transferred to Fordham University, a member of the Patriot League. Because of the transfer, he sat out the 1994-95 season.

Meanwhile, Fordham has left the Patriot League and joined the Atlantic 10. Next season, when the 6-foot-6Vi DiMascio makes his debut with Fordham, he'll be playing against St. Joseph's. In addition to Fordham, the Atlantic .10 for the coming season has picked up Virginia Tech, La Salle, Xavier and the University of Dayton. They'll be joining, among others, holdovers Temple, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
