(Sentinel photo) Winners to State Named In County 4-H Event Here Ottawa County 4-H students who will represent the county in the State 4-H show this summer were named at the annual County Achievement Day festivities Friday night in the Holland Civic Center. Out of a total of 1,340 members enrolled in the clothing project, 65 were presented style revue pins and four were chosen as representatives to the State contest.

They are Patricia Rasch of St. Joseph school, Betty Hirdes of Corwin, Donna Dykstra of Apple Holland, and Sheryl Elzinga of North 1 Holland. Jean Mannes of Holland Christian is the alternate. Those selected as county winners in the handicraft and who will display at the fairs are Jim Engelsman of Drenthe, Larry Zuiderna, East Holland. Jim Lamer, Vriesland, Keith Veldheer, East Crisp, Gary Poortinga, Alward, all first year; Bruce Van Antwerp, Hudsonville, Delbert Henning, Bauer, second year; Richard Wagner, Bauer, Gary Engelsman, Drenthe, third year.

Advanced students to exhibit at the state show are Carl Van Bronkhorst, Vriesland, Jack Talsma of Borculo and Jim Rozema of Jenison. Girls representing the county for clothing construction in the state event will be Audrey Glerum of Bursley, Nancy Lindberg of Dennison, Judy Van Strien of Jenison, Nancy Hoving of Allendale, Joyce Syswerda of Hudsonville, Carol Veltman of Holland Christian, Jeane Thome of Delaney, Donna Dykstra of Apple Avenue, Marilyn Ver Hage of Sherbourne and Sharon Hoeksema of Van Raalte, Holland. Selected for knitting honors are Nancy Bosch of Jenison, Christie Hartman of Bursley and -Nancy Karsten of Sherbourne and named for personal improvement honors were Laura Cheyne of Alward, Susan Selvig of Star and Patricia Heslinga of Star. Electrical project winners are Wayne Sharphorn of Coopersville, Bruce Karsten of Drenthe, Bruce Beekman, Armin Berg and Dan Berg, all of Spring Lake. First place and $10 went to the Coopersville Hot Shots with Roland Reed and John Komng as leaders for the Consumer Power Co.

Simon Vollink of route 1, Zeeland, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Tuesday with an open house for relatives, friends and neighbors from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at'the. Community Hall in Borculo. Mr. Vollink operated a grocery in Borculo with his brother Simon Vollink for 47 years, until retirement four years ago.

They are members of the Borculo Christian Reformed Church. Mrs. Vollink is the former Tillie Htiyser. They have six Arnold (Irene) Wykstra, John, Mrs. Willis (Gladys) DeWys, tSanley.and Robert; 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Tom Bruno, a student at Western Theological Seminary and a member of Trinity Church, will present an illustrated address entitled "The Keys of the Kingdom." Resthaven Guild, Adv. Star Chapter Holds Meeting Star of Bethlehem Chapter's regular meeting was held Thursday evening with the Worthy Matron, Mrs. Robert Turschman presiding. Reports were i on the Dutch costumes by Mrs. William Van Howe.

The pre-festival sale of costumes will be at the home of Mrs P. J. Fox. After the business meeting was closed refreshments were served by Mrs. Gerald Pierson and her committee. Tables were decorated for Easter -with baskets, bunnies and pots of English violets furnished by Mrs. Fred Bendixon. At a meeting on March 21 a program was given following the regular meeting honoring the secretary, Miss Margaret Murphy.

75 Students Set 50-Mile Hike Today ALBION Seventy-five Albion and Kalamazoo College students were scheduled to take a 50-mile hike today-. -The students will walk from the Albion campus to the Kalamazoo campus and then attend a dance, if they are physically able. Tropies will be given to the top performance by a boy and by a girl. They will travel along old U.S. 12.

Three of the boys pledged that they would run the entire distance. She carried a cascade arrangement of white feathered carnations. Maid of honor, Joan Van Hoven, and bridesmaid, Joyce Weener, were identically attired in street length dresses of aqua silk organza over taffeta with matching headpieces. They carried cascades of white and yellow feathered carnations.

The groom selected Wayne Boeve as best man and Floyd Raterink as groomsman. Gerald Ra- and Ken Lugten seated the guests. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Raterink were master and mistress of ceremonies at a reception for 90 guests in the church basement.

Pouring punch were Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Sterken, while Mrs. Bernard Raterink, Mrs. Gerald Raterink and Harriet Raterink presided in the gift room.

Jeanne Boeve passed guest book. Mrs. Owen Baas and Wayne Boeve sang a duet, "Hold Thou My Hand." For a wedding trip to Mammoth Cave the new Mrs. Boeve changed to a light blue two piece sheath with black accessories. Both the bride and groom are Holland Christian High School graduates.

Dr. Anthony Kooiker Performs in Saugatuck SAUGATUCK Anthony Kooiker, professor of music at Hope College presented a piano recital Friday afternoon at 2 in the Saugatuck Woman's Club for members of the club and guests. Dr. Kooiker opened his program with Mozart's "Fantasy in Minor" and Haydn's "Sonata in.

Flat Major." The second portion of the musical afternoon included three Chopin numbers, in Flat Major," "Nocturne in Major," and "Waltz in Minor." Fear Show Dogs Have Been Stolen GRAND RAPfDS (UPI)-- The owner of two prize-winning show dogs valued at $1,000 each and missing a week said today they were probably stolen. The Russian Wolfhounds, a male and female, disappeared last Saturday, said Mrs. Ben Herr, who has been showing prize dogs for 20 years. The male has won three prizes as best-in-breed and the female is valued for her litters. They are 2 and years old.

A hole was found beneath a fence surrounding their pen, but it was not the type of hole a dog digs, according to Mrs. Herr. A small herring boat commanded' by the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen was the first ship to sail through the long sought Northwest Passage. Memorial Day Plans Discussed GRAND HAVEN Preliminary plans for the annual observance of Memorial Day in Grand Haven, May 30, were discussed at the first of a series of meetings Monday night by representatives of six veterans groups in Grand Haven at the Chamber of Commerce office. Organizations represented were the United Spanish-American War Veterans, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and their auxiliaries, the Disabled War Veterans, the World War II Barracks No.
