MONDAY MORNING, MAY 18, 1953 SOUTH KOREAN TROOPS STORM RED OUTPOSTS: ROKs Ordered to Withdraw After Fierce All-Day Fighting SEOUL, Monday, May 18 CPSouth Korean troops stormed four: outposts on the East-Central Korean front late Sunday but with-' drew under orders to the main Allied line last night. The South Korean Eighth division reported that the outposts-along horshoe bend in the Pukhan river -were seized from the Chinese in bitter, daylong fighting. sometimes at bayonet point. The withdrawal was forced by intense Communist artillery fire, the Eighth -divisionported.

The Communists had taken the advance positions the past week. On the Western front Allied infantrymen smashed a night Chinese company on an out-: post north of Chorown. The Eighth army said an estimated 122 of the 150 attackers were killed or wounded. AMERICAN B-26 twin-engined bombers struck at Communist supply arteries during the night. The crews reported 161 vehicles destroyed--largest bag in a month.

Eight B-29 Superforts pounded a supply depot at Najca, a 48-acre installation six miles southwest of Sariwon in Western Korea. In the air, US Sabre jets shot down four MIGS and damaged 1 three earlier Sunday in the fifth straight day of blazing dogfights. It brought to 23 the MIGS destroyed since Wednesday. One was probably destroyed and 17 were damaged in the period. The Pukhan river front action coincided with Communist attempts to reinforce their lines.

A US Eighth army staff said Republic of Korea soldiers began their assaults early Sunday and by nightfall had regained outposts named Texas, V1olet and Toksuri. HE SAID ABOUT 750 Chinese Reds were involved in the action, and that a fifth outpost in the area still was -held by -the Communists throughout the assault. There was no estimate of Red casualties. The Reds tried' to -break up the attack with a artillery and mortar barrage in the horseshoe bend. Police Hold Mother In Daughters' Deaths ALMA, mother May 17 4A-A young was held today in the fire deaths of her three small last midnight.

Leila Rouse, 23, told police an overturned candle apparently touched off the blaze in the bedroom of their small home. But police, claiming that the bedding in the room smelled of fuel oil, ordered the mother held for further questioning. Victims of the blaze were Kayleen Rouse. Patricia, 3, and Lewanna, 2. Mrs.

Rouse was taken to State police headquarters at East Lansing today for lie detector tests. Officers who administered them said they were "inconclusive." May 17 The body of Ed Milam, former time Bartow, Bolita lottery operator. was found today in a ditch ten miles southwest of here. He had been shot three times. Sheriff Dave Starr called it a "gangland murder." The 43-year-old Milam disappeared Monday from his home in Orlando. His wife told police he received a telephone call and left the house, saying he would be back in two hours.

Milam was convicted in 1946 on charges of gambling and attempted bribery of an officer. He paid a $3000 fine on the charge and was placed on ten years probation on the gambling charge. Molten Metal Kills Steel Plant Employe PITTSBURGH, May 17 UPAdam Treusch, a 54-year-old employe 'of Jones and Laughlin Steel corporation, died despite an operation after accidentally swallowing some molten metal ten weeks ago. The coroner's office yesterday that Treusch died of pulmonary embolism and stricture of the esophagus, the which connects the mouth with the stomach. The accidental swallowing of the metal was listed as al contributory cause of death.

Commencement at the West Pottsgrove school will be held Thursday night at 8 p. m. Dr. Raymon Kistler, president of Beaver College, is scheduled to give the main address, according to Supervising Principal James T. Jones.
