ABC's "Roseanne" is also fading away with uncharacteristic silence, last Tuesday finishing fourth in its time period, trailing all three rival (networks. Viewers continue to find alternatives to ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox, which accounted for 62 of prime-time viewing during the regular TV season but haven't totaled half the available audience since the NBA playoffs ended in mid-June.

It was a clever idea, but it suffered from extended soloing at a time when the crowd just wanted to dance. These occasional, distracting moments, however, didn't squash the spirit of the evening. When the band, in typical Cuban fashion, jumped to the floor and danced with the audience, the excitement climbed back to the level of the opening moments.
