This award was established by Dr.

Julius H. Comroe in 1929 as a memorial to his late wife, who was salutatorian of the 1914 class of the high school where she was a prominent member of the dramatic, literary and debating societies. It is largely for these reasons that the prize has been offered to that member of the graduating class, each year, who excels in English, and has done outstanding work one of the literary societies, debating and in dramatics as determined by a board of judges. The citation which won this award for Miss Mickley, sets forth her "exceptional talent as a crea- tive writer; lier high scholastic average, her all-around dependability; her outstanding achievement as a public speaker; her dramatic ability; her excellent personal qualities; her excellent service the past two years as moderator for the junior Town Meeting group; her alertness, adeptness in timing, and her repartee, which have helped make this group most popular for civic organizations, radio programs, and high school assemblies."
