She was born Dec. 19, 1916, in Indianapolis, the daughter of William and Madeline (Kountz) Hatton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Townsend Bogie and a son, Michael Arthur.

Esther was an active volunteer at Southeast Multi Service Center for several years, an early organizer for Girls Clubs of Indianapolis, employed by the State of Indiana, P.R. Mallory, Avon Products and G.C. Murphy. Beloved mother of Maria Lewman of Greenfield, Rita (Ken) Guhr of Carthage, Anthony Arthur of Indianapolis, Janis Goodman of Indianapolis, Katrin Brummitt of Kathleen, Ted Arthur of Indianapolis; 29 grandchildren; and 50 plus great grandchildren and greatgreat-grandchildren. Esther also leaves behind her very special friend, Elizabeth Hogan, and many other dear friends.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 5, 2009, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Service, Washington Park East. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2009, at the funeral center. Burial will be at Washington Park East Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 17, 1927, in Fortville to the late Cleta and Ollie Lee (Clark) Hayes. Don was a U.S. Navy Reserve veteran and was employed as a mechanic at Delco Remy in Anderson, retiring in 1990. He had been a Fortville volunteer fireman for 25 years and a member of the Northside Christian Church in Greenfield.

He is survived by his wife, Lenora A. (Graham) Hayes of Fortville, whom he married on July 11, 1947; sons, Michael "Don" (Rebecca) Hayes of Fortville and Timothy J. (Toni) Hayes of Zionsville; daughters, Sue Ann (Joe) Ferrell and Ruth A. Hayes, both of Fortville; brother, Robert Lewis (Mildred) Hayes of Ft. Meyers, 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great -great -grandchild.

Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by son, David Dean Hayes; granddaughter, Angela Sue McCarter; brothers, Richard and Paul Hayes; and sister, Alice Pearson. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Seals Funeral Home Cremation Services, Fortville. A celebration of his life will take place Monday, April 6, 2009, at 10:30 a.m.

sealsfuneralhome.com. Verona (nee Blesse) Lafferty Verona (nee Blesse) Lafferty, Greenfield, born June 1, 1914, in St. Louis, the fourth of five daughters, died Thursday, April 2, 2009. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marie Hedwig (Koerner) and Franz H. G.

Blesse; and sisters, Dorothea Predoehl, Ruth Blesse, Esther Otten and Martha Urban. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Roger E. Lafferty; her son, John and his wife, Aline, of Troy, her daughters, Eva Krebs and her husband, Rick, of Forest Grove, and Beth Lafferty and her husband, Larry Spears, of Indianapolis. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Brian, Michael, Alec, Heidi, James and Matthew; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Kyle and Ryan; and several nieces and nephews. A devoted nurse, Mrs.

Lafferty served as a Captain in the United States Army for more than three years during World War II as an anesthetist. She was a member of the 21st General Hospital Unit, serving in North Africa, Italy and France. She earned a Bronze Battle Star and the affectionate nickname "Gus." Upon her return to the United States, she worked in various veterans hospitals in Colorado, South Dakota and Indiana. She was a lifelong Mo.Synod Lutheran, a life member of VFW Post 6903, Fortville, and a charter member of the Women in Military Service of America. She finished five decades of nursing by working the last 20 years at Hancock Regional Hospital, where she held many positions before retiring as the head nurse in Obstetrics.

At her demise, she was under the care of a nurse whom she had once supervised 30 years previously. Sarah Ann Dower Lowe Sarah Ann Dower Lowe, 89, formerly of St. Albans and Beckley, W.V., died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, in a Greenfield care facility following a long illness. Born on March 3, 1920, in Turkey Knob (Fayette W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ed and Mary Samuels Dower. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank; daughter, Susan; and son, Dale.

Mrs. Lowe was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church in Beckley and the First Baptist Church in St. Albans. She was a member of The Gideons, Eastern Star and Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority. She graduated from Mt.

Hope High School in 1937 and received a teaching degree from Concord University (Concord Normal College at that time) in 1939 and taught school for a brief period of time. She and her husband, Frank owned Sal Stone Co. Survivors include a daughter, June (Richard) Mueller of Fortville; son, Ben (June) Lowe of Lexington, son-in-law, Wes (Kitty) Shaw, St. Albans, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, Dawna, Vonda, Christi, Erich, Kelly, Adam, Andy and Matt; and 18 great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m.

Sunday, April 5, 2009, in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Burial will follow. Elizabeth (Brandenburgh) Pedigo Elizabeth (Brandenburgh) Pedigo, 78, Greenfield, died Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield. Born on Feb. 1, 1931, in Dover, N.H., she was the daughter of Charles Henry and Marjorie (Boomer) Brandenburgh. Mrs.

Pedigo received her associate's degree from a business college. She married Robert E. Pedigo on Aug. 19, 1951. Elizabeth worked for Care Van Service for seven years.

Mrs. Pedigo was an active member of Brookfield Baptist Church in Brookfield, Indiana. Surviving her are her children, Carol (Roger) Andrews of Waverly, Brandy Pedigo of New Palestine, Denise (Ray) Hoskins of Waverly, Jon (Lisa) Pedigo of Greenwood, and Barbara (Brad) Gruell of Greenfield; sisters, Minna Sauber of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Mary Lou Krise of Indianapolis; 11 grandchildren, Scott, Sarah, Mark, Aaron, Gabe, Robert, Ethan, Mitchell, Ariel, Dakota and Bradlie; and four -grandchildren.
