1 well of William Hughes, in the Mesa field at Santa Barbara, was reported to be flowing yesterday at the rate of 2500 to 3000 barrels per day. Heavy gas pressure started the well to blow out, but the crew. succeded in holding it down until the hole could be completed. Bottom is at 2050 feet. The new producer is approximate1y 250 feet west of the Fred Cole wells in the northwesterly part of Santa Barbara.

Four or five wells in that which are thought to be at the very top of the structure. have registered initial flows of 2000 to 3000 barrels daily. Coring Oil Sands Nearly 2000 feet of saturated oil sand is reported to have been cored in the Casamera Oil Company's No. 1 well, southwest of North Belridge field, according to company reports. The hole is down 6270 feet and making steady progress through the upper Temblor formation, it is said.

Heavy gas pressure has been present for the last 500 feet of drilling, the reports say. Company officials plan to take in 200 feet more formation and then cement off for a production test. Casamera holds eighty of leases surrounding the Adwacres joining parcels are held by Standard, Shell, Cities Service, Pure Oil, Honolulu Oil. Richfield and other operating companies. Rigging Up Felix The Petroleum Securities Company is rigging up to start the drill in its Felix No.

4 well on Kettleman Hills north dome. as an effset to two other operations. The well will be west of the Associated Oil Company's new Whepley drilling job, and east of Standard's No. 45-35-J location. On the middle dome of Kettleman Hills the Petroleum Securities Company's No.

58-19-V well. its commercial producer there, and the second steady producer in first the field, is yielding 450 barrels of crude per day under pinch-down. The well has not been given an allowable, but, will get one under the November quota, it is reported. This project established a potential of 1500 barrels per day. Rio Grande Starting Next week the Rio Grande Oil Company will start building derricks for two wells which it will drill at on the forty-acre Perkins lease in the Mesa Held at Santa Barbara.

The company obtained its lease there a few days ago and is rushing preparation for field development. It expects to run two strings of tools simultaneously and will drill two new ones as quickly as they be completed. can, lease adjoins Fred Cole's Perkins parcel and lies on the east side of the Fair Acres area, being the only block cf acreage in the vacant lot territory Boom Hits Edison With the completion of the Edison Oil Company's CCMO No. 1 for nearly 2000 barrels this week in the Edison field, Sec. 15, 30-29, a boom has hit the district which had been gradually slowing up because of several recent disappointments developed recently.

Although a few projects are still going ahead in the southern end, it is believed that the biggest production lies to the north. The Lee Oil Company is reported to be coring in good oil sand with plenty of gas pressure at 3050 feet in its Seale No. 1 on Sec. 6, 30-29. A well is to be spudded in on Section 14, 30-29 by North American Oil Consolidated, a quarter of a mile west of Jergins Trust's Dougherty No.
