jlijJI SATURDAY JAN 30.1993 THE NEWS JOURNAL AT Howard Siers, former Du Pont general auditor TUCSON, Ariz. Howard L. Siers, retired general auditor of the Du Pont Co. and decorated Korean War veteran, died Jan. 23 of complications from pneumonia in Northwest Hospital here, where he was a patient.

Mr. Siers, 64, of Wilmington and Tucson, worked for Du Pont in Europe, South America and the United States. He was named assistant comptroller in 1972, division director of industrial accounting in 1977 and appointed general auditor in 1983. He retired in 1987 after more than 35 years. His family said he strove to improve the accounting profession and was known as "Mr.

Ethics" for his efforts to improve the business world, including speaking nationwide on the subject. Mr. Siers served in the Marine Corps during the war. He received a Silver Star for gallantry as platoon leader in attacking an entrenched enemy force. The citation noted he led his men, firing his weapon and hurling hand grenades and engaging in hand-to-hand combat with the enemy.

Despite being wounded, he regrouped his platoon and accounted for all the men. He received a Bronze Star for repeatedly crossing open terrain to get instructions from a wounded company commander when his platoon was cut off and pinned down by enemy fire, his family said. Mr. Siers was co-author of Standards of Ethical Conduct for Management Accountants, chairman of the Ethics Committee of Institute of Management Accountants and later became involved in internal control. As committee chairman, he developed and implemented the ethics initiative, established an ethics counseling service and ethics hot line and developed and implemented procedures for enforcing the code of ethics.

He worked with the International Federation of Accountants to develop an international code of ethics for all accountants. Mr. Siers wrote a monthly ethics column for "Management Accounting" journal. He served on the Arthur Andersen Co. Advisory Council on Business Ethics of the Ethics Foundation.

Mr. Siers was project consultant to the Committee on Sponsoring Organizations of the Tread-way Commission and was instrumental in the development of "Internal Control-An Integrated Framework," an internal control document. He was a 1948 graduate of Ohio State University. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; three sons, Dwight Allen and Robert Owen, both of Wilmington, and Mark Douglas of Chester Springs, a daughter, Deborah S. Refsnider of Birmingham, his mother, Freda Siers of Hart-ville, Ohio; two brothers, Carl of Jacksonville, N.C., and Jim of Magadore, Ohio; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 6 in Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2313 Concord Pike, Fairfax, Del. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, 33rd and North Market streets, Wilmington. WILLIAM ROLAND RICKEY, 99, of 150 E. Main Elkton, died Thursday of pneumonia in Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Elsmere, Del. Mr. Rickey had been an auto purchaser and retailer for several Elkton-area agencies.

He was an Army veteran of World War I. He is survived by a sister, Ju-lianne "Judy" Street of Phoenix-ville, Pa. A service will be at 11 a.m, Tuesday in Gee Funeral Home, 259 E. Main Elkton, where family and friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial will be in Max Meadows, Va.

Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to Elkton United Methodist Church. INA CHILDRESS TONER, 70, of Wilmington, formerly of Surry County, N.C., was found dead at home Saturday. The state medical examiner's office is determining the cause of death. Mrs. Toner was retired from Electric Hose Rubber Wilmington.

She is survived by three sisters, Vernice Cockerham of State Road, N.C., Ruby Smith of Clifton Forge, and Darlene Crouse of Thurmond, N.C.; and three brothers, Arestus and George Childress, both of Thurmond, and Thalmage Childress of State Road. A service was Wednesday in Christ Hill Baptist Church, Charity Hill, N.C., with entombment in Crestwood Memorial Gardens, North Elkin, N.C. KATHERINE D. VanNAME, 91, of Governor Bacon Health Center, Delaware City, died Thursday of congestive heart failure in Christiana Hospital. Mrs.

VanName, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., had lived in New York City, Connecticut, Newark and Wilmington. She was financial secretary for Mrs. Corneilus Vanderbilt in New York City in the 1940s and '50s. After that, she worked at a boutique in Chester, Conn. Her husband, Frederick W.

died in 1976. She is survived by a goddaughter, Didsy J. Cheney of Cranbury, N.J., who cared for her; and three stepgrandchildren. A service and burial will be in May in Maine. JOHN J.

ZDEB, 73, of 3214 White-man Road, Pike Creek, died Friday of cancer at home. Mr. Zdeb, an accountant and supervisor in the payroll department at Du Pont retired in 1982 after 30 years. He was a Marine Corps veteran; of World War II and was honorably discharged as a master sergeant. He was past president of Holy Name Society of Holy Spirit Cath-; olic Church, New Castle, and a member of St.

John the Beloved Catholic Church. He was a graduate of St. Joseph's College, Philadelphia. He is survived by his wife, Verda Robinson Zdeb; three sons, John J. Jr.

of Clifton Park, N.Y., Frederick B. of Newark and Thomas F. of Vista, two daughters, Mary Caruso of Elkins Park, and Margaret Earo of Terry, N.C.; three sisters, Kather-ine Treciak, Mary Lesniak and Stella Grych, all of Chicopee, 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in St.

John the Beloved Catholic Church, 907 Milltown Road, Sherwood Park I. There will be no viewing. Entombment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Kirkwood Highway. Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice Wilmington. years.

He retired in 1978. He was an Army veteran of World War U. He is survived by his wife, Sophia Louise; a son, Augustus Jr. of Elkton; a brother, Frank of Smyrna, four sisters, Gloria Brittingham of Smyrna, Emma Sy-binski of Clayton, Marguerite Salmons of Harrington, and Grace Slaughter of New Hampshire; and two grandchildren. HOUCK, 96, of Pines, Sarasota, died Jan. 19 at home. Mr. Houck, born in Reading, attended Wilmington public schools. He was a draftsman-engineer for Gilbert Associates, Reading, and at Du Pont Wilmington.

He retired in 1961. He was a graduate of Pratt Institute. He served with the Army 19th Engineers in France and England during World War I. He was a Master Mason, charter member of Legion of Honor and life member and former post commander of Laurence Roberts Post 21, American Legion, Wilmington. His wives, Alice Sullivan Houck and Edith Simmons Vana-man Houck, are deceased.

He is survived by four nephews. A memorial service was Thursday in Sarasota. Private burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading. JANE C. KALLAHER, 78, of Stonegates, Greenville, died Thursday in Stonegates Health Care Center, where she was a patient.

Mrs. Kallaher, a homemaker, was a member of Wilmington Country Club. Her husband, James Robert, died in 1969. She is survived by a son, David of Orlando, a daughter, Ruth A. Phillips of Dar-nestown, and six grandchildren.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Mary Campbell Center, 4641 Weldin Road, Wilmington. CHARLES A. MIKOLAJEWSKI 70, of 914 S. Grant Wilmington, died Thursday of cancer in Christiana Hospital, where he was a patient. Mr.

Mikolajewski was a millwright for 11 years at General Motors Boxwood Road plant. He retired in 1981. Earlier, he worked at Continental Can Wilmington, for 23 years. He was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II. died in 1989. He is survived by his parents, Michael L. and Barbara M. Cook of Gordonsville; two sisters, Gena C.

Johnson of Orange and Donna C. Crider of Boyce; two brothers, Michael D. of St. Petersburg, and Anthony S. of Richmond; and his paternal grandmother, Dora Cook, and his maternal grandparents, Haywood and Maxine McDaniel, all of Orange.

LAURENCE R. DAVIS, 77, of 1918 Seneca Road, Canby Park, Wilmington, died Friday of cancer at home. Mr. Davis retired in 1978 from Conrail after 45 years in railroading. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and served with the 3rd Division.

He was a member of Clarence Fraim Senior Center, Wilmington. He is survived by his wife, Bertha "Peggy" and a granddaughter, Shannon L. Carter of Newark, who helped care for him. A service and burial will be private. Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Clarence Fraim Senior Center, or Delaware Hospice both in Wilmington.

ALICE G. DOHL, 72, of 913 Grand-view Bellefonto, died Thursday of cancer at her daughter's home in Newark. Mrs. Dohl was a member of the first nursing class to graduate from Brown Vocational High School and a graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a licensed practical nurse at Riverside Hospital for 35 years.

She retired in 1985. She was a member of Hillcrest-Bellefonte United Methodist Church and Sellers Senior Center. She enjoyed fishing in the Delaware Bay and growing flowers, especially African violets and orchids. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert two sons, Claude O. of Newark and Gary W.

at home; two daughters, Bonnie Allen of Elkton, and Linda Stevenson of Newark; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandsons. A celebration of her life will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Beeson Memorial Services of North Wilmington, 412 Philadelphia Pike, where family and friends may call after 9:30. JEWELL P. GRAY, 84, of Pot Nets Park, Millsboro, died Friday of heart failure in Harbor Health Care Rehabilitation Center, Lewes. Mrs. Gray was a homemaker. She was born in Alabama.

Her husband, Robert L. died in 1988. She is survived by three sons, Robert L. Jr. of Millsboro, Andrew F.

of Clayton and William R. of Aston, two daughters, Sylvia M. Foraker of Peoria, and E. Louise Reynolds of Millsboro; 16 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. A service will be at 11 a.m.

Friday in the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where family and friends may call at 10. Burial will be private. AUGUSTUS GREEN 71, of 111 Osage Elkton, died Thursday of cancer at his son's home in Elkton. GLADYS FRANCES MORNHINWEG, 74, of 225 LaFonteney Drive, Louisville, formerly of Wilmington, died Thursday of cancer in Nazareth Home, Louisville, where she was a patient. Mrs. Mornhinweg, a home-maker, was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Middletown, Ohio. Her husband, George died in 1968.

She is survived by a daughter, Dr. Gail Mornhinweg of Louisville; a son, Pastor George of Ottawa Lake, two sisters, Virginia Marraffini of Greentown, and Lillian Malara of Hamlin, four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. MARGARET WATSON REED NEWMAN, 64, of West Chester, Pa, formerly of Newark, died Wednesday of cancer in Chester County Hospital, West Chester. She had been ill for the past 10 years, her family said. Mrs. Newman, an English teacher, retired in 1985 after 13 years at Newark High School.

She had lived in West Chester for 21 years. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, West Chester; National Council of Teachers of English; and Renaissance Society of America. She earned a bachelor's degree in 1972 and a master's degree in 1976, both at the University of Delaware. Her first husband, Howard Yoder Reed, died in 1971.

Surviving are her husband, Franklin B. Newman; four daughters, Barbara Reed Ruszkowski of Hockessin, Deborah Reed-Danahay of Decatur, Theresa Eileen Reed of Downingtown and Christina Reed Koval of Studio City, a brother, William J. Watson of St. Petersburg, and three grandchildren. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m.

Ratsep, born in Estonia, fled with his family to Germany to avoid the communists and came to the United States in 1950. He had worked in construction for Edward J. Hill Wilmington. After retiring, he worked for Harper-Thiel Miller Road, Wilmington. His wife, Hilda, died in 1983.

He is survived by two sons, Toivo, with whom he lived and Peter of Glens Falls, N.Y.; a sister, Rosali Hanni of Tallinn, Estonia; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Cora De lia Walker of Butlertown died Wednesday of congestive heart failure in Kent Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown, where she was a patient.

She was 104. Mrs. Walker had been a domestic worker. She was a member of Mount Olive AME Church, Butlertown, and honorary member of its Missionary Society and Steward Board. Her husband, the Rev.

Albert, ABRAHAM B. COLLISON, 72, of Llnwood, died Wednesday of heart disease in Wallingford Care Center. Mr. Collison, a boiler maker in the marine department at Sun Oil Marcus Hook, retired in 1982 after 41 years. Earlier, he worked at American Viscose Marcus Hook, for five years.

During World War II, he served with the merchant marine department of Sun Oil. He was a member of Sun Oil Honor and Sapphire clubs, Lower Chichester Senior Citizens Club and Chichester Chapter 3614, AARP. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ethel M. Helm Collison; two daughters, Margaret Gebhart of Newark, and Mary Hawk of Stone Harbor, N.J.; three brothers, Harry of Virginia, Samuel of New Port Richey, and Walter of Hudson, two sisters, Geraldine Koziol of Spring, Texas, and Edna Blowert of Chester; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. A service will be at 2 p.m.

Jr. of Sykesville, and Ronald W. of Great Falls, S.C.; two daughters, Donna L. Dubrink, with whom he lived, and Nancy L. Crawford of Booth Bay, Maine; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
