A14 ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL Thursday, February 28, 1985 Santa Fe's Channel 2 Changes Letters By Rick Nathanson JOURNAL STAFF WRITER At midnight tonight, Santa Fe's independent television station, KSAF-TV, channel 2, will become KNMZ-TV. The new call letters are not the only change planned for the relatively young television station, said general manager Al Lucero. Beginning March 10, the station will start broadcasting Sunday football games of the United States Football League, and on March 11, the station will begin broadcasting 24 hours a day. The call letters change, Lucero said, is to avoid the continued confusion with the call letters of Santa Fe AM radio station KAFE, and with the now-defunct Santa Fe cable station KSFE-TV. Call letter KNMZ were chosen, Lucero said, because they would lend themselves to a new promotional campaign similar to one used by San Francisco television station KTZO. That station converts the "Z" to the number "2" and has become known as "KT20-TV." During the hourly FCC-required station identifications, the Santa Fe station will animate the letter "Z" in its new call letters, transforming it into a number "2", Lucero said. Channel 2 will become known as "KNM2-TV". In an arrangement with the ABC network, Channel 2 was able to provide for broadcast of USFL games because the local ABC affiliate, KOAT, was not carrying them, Lucero said. The station's new 24-hour broadcasting will provide viewers with a variety of dramatic and comedy shows, in addition to hours of movies. The station now signs off at midnight during the week and 2 a.m. on weekends. Under the new programming, the station will carry two hour-long dramatic shows beginning at midnight, and air movies until 6 a.m. Initially, Lucero said, reruns of "Alfred Hitchcock" and "The Fugitive" will be shown, but the programming will change every six months to provide the views with variety, he said. Currently, KOB-TV, channel 4, r erni 4 afii aims, No mystery. No ceremony. But a lot of deeply Christian thinking to apply in your daily life. There are thoughtful hymns. The Lord's Prayer. Then, a different Lesson-Sermon every week, full of interesting ideas from the Bible and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. And through it all, a concept of Love, divine Love, the way Christ Jesus lived it, that relates you to God in a new and revitalizing way. If you think you'd enjoy the freshness of it, We'd love to have you come. This or any Sunday.
