"The Rocky Horror Show" is a blend of the classic science fiction motif with rock 'n' roll, transvestite cabaret, camp theater, corny sexual innuendos and '50s morality.

It isn't for the faint of heart. But it's the best drag show in town. A few "Rocky" aficionados who knew the cues and leapt into the aisles to dance the "Time Warp" were in evidence in Santa Fe for the stage show, but they were sedate in comparison with the bawdy crowd that frequents the Guild movie ADVISOR 823-4444 of the famous lips that fill the screen at the start of the movie. This is a high energy production. Voices rip their way around the theater, accompanied by a superb five-piece band.

The only flaw when the production opened in Santa Fe recently was that the sound system wasn't capable of handling the belting power of the music. Religious devotees of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" mustn't miss this, though they may find the THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW," written by Richard O'Brien, directed by Andrew Shea, with choreography by Bill Evans, will be at the KiMo Theatre through Dec. 10. The gala opening is tonight at 7, Saturday shows at 2 and 8 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m. Shows will be at 8 p.m.

Tuesday through Dec. 9, and on Dec. 10, at 3 and 7 p.m. Tickets for the gala night are $1 5 to $21 Other tickets are $8 to $19, with student and senior JOURNAL CORRESPONDENT Dr. Frank 'N Furter himself couldn't have done a better job.

''The Rocky Horror Show" was born as a stage rock musical in London in 1973, but it never achieved the phenomenal success oi its spin-off, "The Rocky Horror picture Show." One can't help but wonder how much the movie has influenced new theatrical productions. At any rate, comparisons are inevitable, and the New Mexico ftep's production measures up favorably. Lacking the special effects possible on celluloid, the itage show employs some nifty ricks to get around the restrictions the space. It's an especially impressive feat to pull off in a small repertory theater. jtosario Provenza's stage design is compact and ingenious, managing convey the idea of several scenes in one space.

Evans' imaginative Choreography takes the place of some of the movie's effects that can't be replicated on stage, notably i routine that substitutes perfectly for the film's underwater orgy. iTim Curry set the standard in the movie role of Dr. Frank 'N' Furter, and it would seem a hard task to match his rampantly camp performance. But G. Valmont Thomas does it.

He lacks Curry's fruity T6ice, but he belts out "Sweet tfansvestite" with the same power, and he's just as outrageous, decadent and provocative. He's also considerably more agile and manages to leap around the stage on stiletto heels that would leave many a woman teetering. Scott Harlan has a harder time dislodging memories of Meatloaf quintessential Eddie, the obese biker who meets a sorry end at Frank's hand. Harlan's Eddie matches Meatloaf pound for pound but his performance doesn't carry a much weight. -Eric Scott Kincaid is a forgettable Riff-Raff, Frank's hump-backed handyman.

Kincaid is streets away from achieving the Uriah Heep sQminess of the movie Riff-Raff, pjayed by Horror Show creator, Richard O'Brien. JClif Thorn and Heather Lee slip without trouble into the roles of Brad and Janet, the very straight and proper couple who are lured into Frank's den of forbidden pleasure. 1 And Gary Jackson is a gorgeously hunky Rocky, the blond muscleman Frank has created to relieve his "tension."
