A joint committee of the two leagues has been working for weeks on plans for the title game. The Los Angeles Coliseum and the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans reportedly top the list of possible sites. The date is expected to be either Jan. 8, or Jan. 15, both Sundays.

The AFL champion will be decided Monday, Dec. 26, and the NFL title game is set for Sunday, Jan. 1, both in the park of the Eastern Division winner. Both leagues have tentatively scheduled their all- star games for Jan. 15, but a switch could be made.

The leagues also will try to set up a plan, date and site for a joint draft for 16 NFL teams, including New Orleans, and nine OI ra a AFI rliihs OUlers who-will see plenty of In the 6-5 class are center Ed Wilson and fonvard Charles Parks, who led San Francisco City College to second place in the California jaycee tournament last season, along with forward Ralph McGee. who was All-Conference al Vallejo J. But along with the tall men in Ihe cast, it may well be two of the smaller players, lettermen Jerry Mosser and Ron Boone at a who determine the destiny of the Bengals this sea- on. Boone, a 6-1 jumping jack, is Ail-America material in the estimation of Retherford and is expected to fill the shoes of graduated scoring star Dave Wagnon in fine shape. A product of Oma- aa, Neb. and Clarinda J. Boone joined the ISU squad for the latter half of the '66 season and finished his soph campaign with a 10.9 scoring average.

Mosser was a starter at guard last season, and as the only senior on the team, will be counted upon to provide leadership and direct the offensive patterns on the floor. Like Boone, he also hails from Omaha and was coached at Technical High by father, Neil Mosser, former teammate of Retherford at University of Nebraska. Fpf Edoe Kansas City Chiefs were in a chartered plane at 18,000 feet over Elwood City, Sunday night when they learned that they were the Western Division champions of the American Football League. A celebration broke loose, and that plane probably will never be the same again. The Chiefs had been quietly celebrating their 32-24 victory over the New York Jets. Then the news that Denver had beaten San Diego 20-17, clinching the title for the Chiefs, came while the stewardesses were serving dinner. A mighty cheer filled the plane.

Then linebacker E.J. Holub soaked Coach Hank Strain's head with a can of beer. Every container of liquid -water, beer, pop, cold coffee -became a weapon. Stram and his assistant coaches moved back through the plane retaliating, soaking Holub and everyone else they encountered. Finally the celebration died down.

Both Hiatt and Cook are former ISU students. Hiatt now resides in Boise. Jim Jacobson Jr. and Emerson Maxson, both of Boise, finished third and fourth respectively.

The top four after the eigjit-game qualifying rounds rolled off for the championship. Cook defeated Maxon 178 to 163, and he defeated Jacobson 226 to 208 to gain the right to meet Hiatt. The next Idaho Scratch Bowling Association tournament will be in January at Nampa. All bowlers averaging at least 170 are eligible to enter. Shin Kawamura and Ken Jensen, both of Pocatello, won the first two tournaments at 1 and Boise.

Ortiz Tabbed 3-1 Favorite Over Elorde NEW YORK (AP) Flash Elorde, a millionaire fighter from Manila, might reach the end of the boxing line tonight in a second bid for Carlos Ortiz' world lightweight title at Madison Square Garden.

Ortiz, a sharp boxer and a crisp hitter, is a 3--1 favorite over the 31-year-old world junior lightweight (130 champion from the Philippines in the national television 15- rounder. Staring time is 10 p.m. EST. Elorde almost grabbed the 135-pound division crown from Ortiz to Manila 2 vears a when he was leading the Puerto Rican-born New Yorker after 13 rounds. But in the 14th Elorde was cut over the eye and the bout was stopped.

"I know I can beat Ortiz," said Elorde. "I was beating him the last time before I was cut. I want to win the title now, then keep it two years and retire. If I lose this time, the chances are I will retire because there will be nothing left to fight for." Gil Coan make the difference." Dawson's passes to Taylor set up two other Mercer field goals, his losses to Garrett and Taylor led to a 19-yard scoring heave to Burford and Garrett's running and catching set up the former Heisman Trophy winner's plunge for a TD. Pete Beathard, taking over when Dawson ruptured a blood vessel in his left hand, directed the Chiefs on long drives that produced a TD and Mercer's fourth field goal, enough to overcome two last quarter scoring passes by Joe Namath that tightened the score.

The victory gave Kansas City an uncatchable 9-2-1 record while San Diego fell, to 5-5-1. Bramlett's charge came with 7:24 to play and Wendell Hayes later broke for 56 yeads and a score. In the only cither AFL game, Boston kept pace with Buffalo in the Eastern Division by holding off Miami 20-14 as Jim Nance broke the league rushing record for a season. Babe Parilli hit Art Graham on a 22-yard scoring pass and Gino Cappelletti kicked two field goals, but it was Nance's 27-yard TD run that provided the differece. It gave the Pats a 20-0 lead in the third period before Dick Wood carried the Dolphins back with two scoring tosses.

Nance gained 133 yards for the day, bringing his total to 1,125, four more than Paul Lowe last year. NOTICE MONTE J.
