Palms Trading Co. Founder Dies at 62 Angelo Del Frate, a longtime Albuquerque businessman, died Tuesday. He was 62. Del Frate, a graduate of Albuquerque High School, joined his family's grocery business at Rio Grande and Central when he returned to Albuquerque after serving in the Navy during World War II. He eventually took over the business.

In the mid-1960s, he sold the liquor license and grocery business and opened a jewelry store, the Palms Trading at 15th and Lomas NW. In 1988, Del Frate completed a $500,000 renovation and expansion project on the 15th and Lomas property. Four townhouses and an expanded commercial center that included Palms Tax Services, Las Palmas Import Thunderbird Supply and Palms Trading were built under an unusual contract with the Downtown Neighborhood Association. The contract called for Del Frate to pay the association $100,000 if he did not comply with its terms. The contract allowed the Del Frate business to grow while protecting the residential aspects of the adjacent neighborhood.

The association later awarded him a certificate of appreciation for his development. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; a daughter, Carla D. King; a son, Mark A. Del Frate; a sister, Ketta Berger; a brother, Guido Del Frate and 1 four grandchildren. All live in Albuquerque.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Casa Angelica, 5629 Isleta SW. Strong- Thorne Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
